Booked a table for Saturday evening for 4 of us. Lovely looking restaurant inside, spacious with high ceiling & good decoration. Greeted at the door and shown to our table (thought the little reserved signs with our name on were good).
A very different menu to the normal “Indian”which made us think but plenty to chose from (a good range of vegetarian options as well) I wasn’t overly adventurous with the starters having the meat samosas but they were lovely, my wife chose a starter from the vegetarian menu, I think it was the Dahi Bhalla which was delicious. For mains we all tried something different than we would normally have and we were not disappointed. Palak Paneer was good, as was the Palak Gosht. I went for the Murg Zaffrani Biryani which I am getting hungry again as I write it down. All good tasting food that also looked good, not at all greasy.
This restaurant has the feel of one that is attempting to break the mold a little from the style of Indian Restaurant we traditionally have eaten at in Medway which isn’t a bad thing.
I personally really enjoyed it and look forward to returning. If you are a chicken madras and 10 side dish type (I normally am)then this will be a different experience for you.
It is a little more expensive but I think justifies it with the quality.
It has only recently opened so does have a few teething problems which is to be expected. Our food was very slow in coming out but they were very apologetic and explained they had a problem which is fine.
Thanks for a lovely evening and hope the restaurant is a success.

My husband and I have been looking forward to this restaurant opening. We were made to feel welcome, lovely design in the restaurant with attentive service. Never made to feel rushed and food served hot and the flavours were amazing. Freshly cooked and portion sizes were just right. We enjoyed the mixed meat starters followed by Goan fish curry and Kadai chicken with lemon rice and an assortment of various breads. I loved the fennel sweets at the end of the meal.
We normally frequent an Indian restaurant in Chatham, however we are tempted to switch as we are so impressed with our first visit.
Also many thanks to Jay and his staff for a memorable dining experience.

Dined here last night - lovely food. Very fragrant, beautifully spiced, not greasy. Good service and plentiful portions. Air conditioned and spacious. Only drawback was the acoustics - high ceiling, music etc made it slightly difficult to hear.

Spent weeks anticipating the opening of the restaurant. Ordered Poppadom to start - they were definitely not made on the premises - would confidently say they were Pataks finest from the local coop! Chicken dish came out as fish! Apparently the chef just made the dish up! Chicken coconut curry had a lovely flavour but was barely warm. Partners dish finally came out 10 mins after I had finished mine and was cold. Complained and told the waiter the food was lukewarm and his response was ok ill bear that in mind?! £43 for 2 poppodam, a bottle of wine and 1 curry and 1 rice! Never again!

Let me be clear, this is not a run of the mill curry house. This is a fine cuisine Indian restaurant, and the price is not cheap but we most definitely received excellent food and some very friendly service. All this despite a local disaster the day before!
Popadom is the latest edition to a well stocked Pier5 location that already offers Burgers, Bars, Deserts, Mexican, Chinese, American diner etc so you might think it’s got tough competition but having eaten at every option now this is by far the top grade. We paid £93 for 5 meals including one round of drinks but rest assured the quality of food was exemplary, indeed four of us regarded this meal as setting a new standard in Indian food. The 5th agreed it was very good but he still preferred our previous favourite in Meopham!
I mentioned that this is not a run of the mill curry house and some of the standard items (Korma, vindaloo etc) were not on the menu but the youngest enjoyed the familiarity of the Tikka masala, the eldest son waxed lyrical about the Lamb RoganJosh (the lamb was amazing) and I could not believe the flavours of the fish came through so well in my curry with the lemon rice. The Biriyani house speciality was also very tasty, well apart from Smiffy, who doesn’t share their meals when eating an Indian?!?
One of my sons has a thing for reviewing toilets, he’s a tough critic and gave Popadom a string 7/10 due to only two urinals (no one likes to stand adjacent so a third is always welcome!) and the taps were too forceful causing splash back..
Only slight negative, because we do like to be balanced, was that the super friendly family were clearly stretched (and apologetic) so no doubt will be hoping to get some helpers in and up to speed soon.
Welcome to Pier5, Popadom I hope your first week went well, I will be returning to try more of your menu soon! Rob
