We don’t finish work until late quite often and it’s one of the only places that serves food until 11. The food is not of an amazing standard but for the price is very good and the staff are friendly. They are now doing pizzas too.

We have been visiting The Eight Bells at Dover regularly for the past two years but it has gone downhill recently. It’s nearly as bad as Folkestone Wetherspoons, uncleared and unclean tables plus issues with the food.
Been in there this evening after a trip to the cinema and ordered our usual Tuesday steak, decided to add a new side of roasted vegetables.
They barely covered the bottom of the small bowl they were presented in ( less than half the amount we had been given in another Wetherspoons the previous week) and they were supposed to equate to 89 calories!

After visiting Dover Castle on what turned out to be our last day in Kent, we struggled to find somewhere different for lunch. The Eight Bells turned out to be the best choice within our budget.

The venue wasn't too busy at the time of our arrival though there were a fair number of customers. We ordered and got served quite quickly. When I went back to order dessert I was amused to find that there were two tables with the same number as the lady behind the bar asked if we were number 7 to the right or the number 7 up the steps!

I'm glad we came when we did as just as we were finishing our desserts a group of noisy 'chavs' (I hate using that term but that is what they were) came and sat nearby and proceeded to converse with friends by shouting to them a few tables away.

The young man who brought our meals, desserts and cleared the tables should be commended for his polite manner, almost out of place in this venue!

Our first night in the UK and we picked Eight Bells for dinner. The service was good and the food great. I had the lasagne and a pint of beer. I could not believe that they could provide dinner and alcohol for so little. I am not surprised that so many people eat here.
