Popped in at the end of a days walking to find a warm fir, friendly staff and locals, a good whiskey selection AND a free beer. Top marks!

A proper pub simple as that! Real Fire... No music... No TV... Just what a pub should be... Excellent.

Every time we visit the Lakes we spend our evenings in this pub.... it's simply the best! Greg, Martin and Lizzy behind the bar always make you welcome. See you again in about 6mths.

Great Lake District pubs are all in the rural countryside but the Golden Rule comes close in Ambleside. Over the years we've largely had a pint or two after a good day on the local fells and occasionally the odd bar meal. There is always a good hearty warm roaring fire to welcome you, and like-minded people to have a crack. Border Terriers (and other dogs) are more than welcomed. Well worth a wee visit.

This is a excellent walk. Not too long at all you can be up at the top within half an hour. You can park on the road for free. The view is stunning and well worth seeing. A must in the area. Wear suitable shoes.
