Having our two, well behaved dogs in-tow, we weren't sure where to eat until we noticed, The Deck, an open-air eatery area, part of The Regent Hotel, in Ambleside - a great find!

With all of the tables busy (a good sign), we were lucky a table became vacant just as we arrived. We chose the 12 hour pulled brisket burger (my Wife reported it to be - VERY delicious)and the Fish and Chips, which I can report was EXTREMELY delicious!

Unplanned, it was a great find which we will take advantage of again.

The speed and quality of service was very good creating an experience, safe to recommend.

We stayed here last weekend for 2 nights and will definitely be back . Having stayed in this part of Ambleside in an apartment for the last 15 years we have walked passed this hotel every time and thought what a lovely location it had . In April we noticed the new Decking Area and renaming of restaurant and the menu definitely caught our attention . This prompted us to book a 2 night stay last weekend .
From the first phone call with Alex to book the room , to checking out , we found the staff to be very attentive and friendly .
We booked a superior , garden room which was in separate building with its own little terrace with table and chairs , although it overlooked the car park , it was very quiet and you could just see Lake Windermere in distance . The room itself was immaculately clean, and a good size .
We ate in the restaurant the first night , which we paid for in advance when booking , paid £28 per person but with an allowance of £31 off A la Carte menu towards food . We opted for smoked salmon and the potted prawns for starters , then we both had Sirloin steak for main course which was delicious .
The breakfasts were outstanding and set us up for the day with an excellent choice .
You could not want a better location , an easy walking distance into Ambleside , but away from the crowds as Ambleside gets very busy at weekends and the Lake on the doorstep .
I’m sure we will be returning soon .

For alfresco dining the Regent hotel has the “deck”; situated across the road from the lake; so you can sit and watch the boats and the tourists amble by.
The deck is protected by an efficient awning, so that the rain should not inconvenience you.
Try the excellent Cumbrian meat platter to share for two people it’s fun! Plus the coffee is good.

My wife and I have just returned from a five night stay at the Regent Hotel and cannot praise it enough.
The staff were all extremely attentive and helpful. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis but ate in the hotel restaurant called Table 22 on two evenings. The meals can only be described as outstanding and amazing value for money.
The choice at breakfast was on another level altogether compared to any hotel I have stayed in and that is quite a few. I particularly liked the inclusion of smoked haddock and kippers as an option.
The hotel is a ten minute walk outside the village of Ambleside but is right beside the lake where you can take a boat to other parts of Lake Windermere.
As far as exploring the Lake District Ambleside is a superb location and the Regent Hotel would be my first choice if ever I returned to this stunning area.

My partner and I stayed here in April for a long weekend. We stayed in one of the garden suites which was absolutely stunning. Spacious, spotless and very comfortable, with a small private patio and view overlooking the outdoor bar and dining area.
The food was wonderful, breakfast especially good and the menu caters for a vegetarian diet. Lovely quiet bar area and a side room with comfy sofas to relax on with a G&T (or two).
The location of the hotel is quite simply perfect. Lakeside and mountain views to Waterhead, Ambleside and Windermere. Plenty to see and do in the local area, numerous pubs and restaurants, fish and chips, tearooms, cafés.... We hired a rowing boat for a reasonable price which was great fun. There are also larger boat trips available.
Walking and exploring is a must for us, we climbed Jenkin Crag (outstanding views from the top) and wandered around beautiful Grasmere (make sure you stop off at the gingerbread shop, it's delicious!)
Ambleside town is close by for shops, bars and restaurants.
A wonderful relaxing weekend away, I would certainly stay at The Regent again in the future. The perfect escape.
