We went to The Trout on Good Friday for dinner, the place was packed..!
We should have booked.
James, the manager said why don't we have a drink in the bar and wait for a table, what a good decision that was.A table became free and we had a lovely meal.
This is by far the best hotel & restaurant in Cockermouth maybe even West Cumbria.
We would definately recommend coming here if your spending some time in the area, either to stay or just dine.

Used this hotel as a base for the Lake District over Easter weekend when all my usual alternatives were fully booked. Hotel is lovely and the rooms spacious. Hotel food is exquisite, although a tad pricy unless you book on a meal inclusive rate.

Only thing stopping it getting a 5 star for this trip, is its location. Cockermouth isnt the prettiest of towns and is well out of the way for the majority of the Lakes prime spots. If you were seeking a hotel specifically in this area, then its 5 star.

My husband and I were lucky enough to receive a voucher as a Christmas gift to stay at this superb hotel. We chose the weekend of 23rd March-26th ( the present entitled us to have three nights for the price of two) Also included with the offer was a glass of champagne each with home made scones, breakfast each morning, and a three course meal in the Derwent Restaurant. We couldn't have picked a better weekend weather wise as it was the hottest so far this year. The staff were all wonderful and couldn't have made us feel more welcome. Our double room was lovely and overlooked the river at the back of the hotel-beautiful! We spent the afternoon finding our way around the town-some lovely shops, pubs cafes and a good number of restaurants to choose from. We were pleased to find the local brewery where you have a tour and a taste of the local brew-also Wordsworth House is right next door to the hotel-a must for any history lovers and a bonus for us as it's run by the National Trust of which we are members. Early evening we decided to enjoy our complimentary champagne and scones in the hotel's bar-we got so comfortable and were looked after so well we ende up eating in there! We both enjoyed a lovely meal. The hotel also has a very nice Bistro if you don't want to eat in the restaurant so you really are spoilt for choice. We used the Trout Hotel as a base from which to travel to other parts of the Lakes- we visited some lovely areas-Buttermere, Kendal, Keswick to name just a few. We enjoyed our Saturday night meal at Portofino, a lovely little Italian Restaurant on the high street. Everyone we met in Cockermouth-in the hotel or in the shops, pubs and cafes were all very welcoming and added to our enjoyment of the long weekend. We spent Sunday around the town itself, enjoying walks along the river, up to the brewery and castle area. That evening we ate in The Derwent restaurant and we were not disappointed. The meal was very good. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable about which wines would compliment the foodetc. All in all a really lovely hotel with helpful staff who all went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. We made sure that we signed up for their email listings and have recenty received news of a similar offer. We won't hesitate in returning.

Room Tip: Our room (111) was lovely and was at the back of the hotel overlooking the river. There are some sui...

A lovely hotel. Great standards of comfort and cleanliness. Luxurious rooms, beautiful surroundings. Professional and friendly staff. Really good food and not too pricey. What more can I say? Oh, and Cockermouth is a lovely little town.

Room Tip: We booked a double executive room. The hotel was very busy and on arrival we had been upgraded to a...

Just returned from our first visit to The Trout Hotel and can't recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived the staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. The food was outstanding in both the restaurant and bar/lounge. Our room was very comfortable and we enjoyed a view over the river. Look forward to our next visit..
