My 15 yr old said he wanted to climb a mountain! Well this didn't disappoint. It was hard going but worth it to get to the top. It took longer than the map said which was 3 hrs, Allow 4 I would say, if you are of average fitness. Thoroughly enjoyed the walk and would highly recommend it. A great sense of achievement.

Thank Ali G

We headed up this hike for the first time in early March. It was stunning but more of a challenge than expected - especially after reading articles that it was fairly easy!!. There was ice a fair way up, and then thick fog/mist when we reached the old mining buildings and fallen cables. We unfortunately couldn’t make it to the top as visibility was so bad. Hopefully in warmer weather we’ll be able to conquer it.

So lucky to have had great weather - please do go prepared though as the weather is SO changeable - lots of warm clothes and snacks. Hiked up with a dog and 2 kids (age 11 and 12). Took the slower walk up via Goats Water and down via the mines.

One of my favourite walks in the Lakes. There’s a tarn about 3/4 of the way up which is a great stop-off point for a quick brew and snack, before tackling the final stretch! It’s quite steep towards the top, very ‘light’ scrambling I’d say. We’re not the most fit couple in the world but reasonably active. I think we were up & down in about 3.5hrs, then straight in to the Sun hotel for a pint! We were immensely lucky with the weather this time ‘round (see pics!) - will continue to return here until old and decrepit I think!
