We stayed for two nights during our 25th wedding anniversary trip. The staff were friendly and helpful and we had a comfortable, spacious room. The food was top notch (a new chef had just started)! It has a sense of faded grandeur and gives a taste of what the Lakes used to be like. The view from our room (number 3) was lovely. A good selection of beer, all kept well. Overall, a really lovely stay.

The service was painfully slow with only one person serving. I noticed 2 or 3 other staff flitting in and out the bar area but they kept ignoring the queues. There was a selection of local ales which were not great in my opinion ( I tried 2 of them)
Food was not being served when we visited which was a pain and also leads me to wonder what all these staff were doing who were ignoring customers.
To sum up...ok but there are better places.

Have eaten here a number of times but our visit in March was particularly good. We stay at Coniston at least once a month and often eat here. The staff are fantastic, friendly and really helpful. We have young children and they were especially helpful with them on this visit giving them some toys to play with and being generally accommodating. The food here is always good as is the atmosphere. The pub itself is beautiful and the views are fantastic. All in all a great place to eat!

Good ale. Good food. Nice folk. Games room. Lost a Saturday afternoon and evening in the blink of an eye whilst drinking and laughing with friends. Top of the hill behind the Black Bull. 5 min walk. Great views. Will be back.
