Yes we have been to this hotel regularly for many years and really enjoyed every visit.
This trip was a last minute idea and a standard room was selected.
The room we were given needed updating and that was anticipated but to be woken by goods being delivered to the rear of the hotel to the kitchen area was not expected. This was of course a ground floor room looking out onto what we now know to be the van delivery area.
The room was exceptionally clean as is the usual standard this hotel and can not be criticised.
The staff of this hotel continue to be exceptionally efficient, polite and friendly and that is brilliant to visitors. Long may it continue.
What we found on this visit was that the lounge area did not seem to be used by visitors
prior to to dinner or later for socialising. Maybe this was unusual but it was apparent to us on this visit.
We opted to dine on the Dinner Chefs Daily Specials rather than the standard menu and they were all well presented and exceptionally tasty. Well done !
Will we return to The Grand at Grasmere ?
Of course we will but will but probably not book a standard room on the ground floor !

We had stayed in this hotel a couple of years ago before it became "GRAND" and had thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Last year we were en route for Yorkshire so stopped off to have a traditional Sunday Lunch which was delicious. This year before heading to Yorkshire on a Sunday I checked the Café Grand menu and noticed that they were no longer doing a "traditional" Sunday Lunch menu (Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding etc.). I emailed the hotel to enquire and was given an assurance that a traditional Sunday Roast would be on the menu. We therefore booked a table for 12.30. We arrived at 12.20 only to be told that we would have to wait for our table as they were still clearing up from breakfast.
When we eventually got to our table we were handed a menu with no mention of "specials" apart from the Soup of the Day.
We settled for Cottage Pie which, although very nice, was NOT the Traditional Sunday Roast that we had been assured would be available. Had we known this we would have gone elsewhere and in future that is what we will do.
When this hotel was THE GOLD RILL the service was excellent and now that it is THE GRAND the service does not live up to its name !!

Came across this hotel whilst walking in Grasmere and enjoyed coffee on the terrace and the beautiful views. We returned a few weeks later for dinner in the restaurant. We were surprised how quiet the restaurant was for a weekend as the food was very good, as was the wine. The interior isn't the norm for the area - it's a more contemporary fit out than I would have expected, but we liked it - it's a bold decision and should appeal to the younger set. There is some early wear and tear in the ladies room due to inferior quality fittings (there is no place to hide unfortunately in a more modern, minimalist look). The colour scheme is pleasant and makes the most of the wonderful views. Service let the place down a little. The kitchen is doing a very good job and deserves a professional front of house. There were 3 young servers who were having a good giggle/matter together on occasions rather than getting on with the job. There needed to be someone directing front of house with some experience. The place feels like it lacks direction without it. Would return for the food however.

This is a wonderful setting for a meal. There were four of us for a late lunch. The staff were friendly and very professional. My starter was hallumi chard melon pesto and salad with pomegranate. It was wonderful as was my Chicken with chimichuri sauce.
The soups were also unusual ingredients with huge tastes and the steaks were top notch.
I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, I cant wait to go back

We have been coming to The Grand for a lunch or dinner for a few years. It all started when we arrived in the middle of a walk with two children with wet walking boots. The staff put them (the boots!) in the boiler room to dry and we all sat in front of the fire and had some lunch. This was before the hotel was the Grand but the staff now are still as attentive. The food has stepped up to an even better quality too. The view is amazing and they really have the prime spot in Grasmere.
