We stayed here for one night in late August. We had been in the Lake District and as the weather had improved we decided to stay an extra night and visit Grasmere. We found the hotel on Google and called in to book a room. The Receptionist was a young lady named Izzy, the grand daughter of the owners who were away on holiday. The hotel looked as if it had been recently refurbished, very tastefully, and Izzy confirmed that this was the case but that it wasn't quite finished yet.
We chatted to Izzy for some time, booked the room and said we would return after lunch.
When we did return Mel (also a member of the family) took us up to our room on the top floor. The room was smart, modern with excellent facilities, a very comfortable bed and a fantastic bathroom. The views of the Fells from the large windows were a huge bonus.
This is a small, friendly, family run hotel with excellent furnishings and a very warm welcome for guests. We found the notices and information for guests to be well written, relevant and at times amusing, written by someone with a sense of humour.
We had dinner in the hotel and it was fabulous as was the breakfast next morning. The chef is both very imaginative and extremely skilled.
we were very impressed by the refurbishment and think that the conservatory dinning area is particularly enjoyable to eat in.
I notice that 95.6% of reviews are excellent/very good, as is this one. As for the rest it would appear that the owner is quite capable of responding to them, a pity he has to spend time doing so.
Weloved this hotel and will return often.

Thank you Brian D for this lovely review.

95.6 % of reviews are excellent or very good? That's pretty conclusive! Particularly when new independent research reveals you are also 95.6 % more likely to write a review of a bad experience than a good one, coincidence on the percentage...probably.

As another guest pointed out after reading your statistic, maybe the problem with the 4.4% of guests that find us average, poor or terrible is exactly that, their problem.

I have spent a week here and leaving in the morning. It is a warm and friendly hotel. The staff and owners are lovely people and helpful. The breakfasts are amazing and extremely varied. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this hotel. Great base for visiting and walking. Clean, pleasant and inviting. Any reviews less than very good are clearly from people who have ulterior motives. Won’t hesitate to return.

I found this small but prefect mix of modern and traditional interior hotel .Right in the hub of Grasmere we have stayed at lots of hotels in the Lakes as this is one of the best .All like details taken care of from a a decanter of Sherry in the room to freshly baked bread .Simons one of the caring owners is great at pairing up the wines with the food .Even if you don’t stay at the hotel book for dinner and enjoy the wonderful mixtures of flavour and texture .Glynis and Simon are the prefect hosts .

Stayed here for two nights last week. Comfortable room, amazing breakfast and finally a very yummy dinner. The conservatory is ideal for eating and the garden is a delight. My husband enjoyed his choice of Chilean wine! Do I recommend- yes.
Would I return - yes.
