“Best of the Best”

We were fortunate to stay at Chestnuts early in july 2011. On a score from 1 to 10 Chestnuts would get 20 from us. The room was perfect, the hosts were very friendly and obliging over and beyond, the breakfast superb and the morning ding room staff cheerful and efficient. Would definite recommend to any coeliacs as Heather went out of her way to accomodate the gluten free diet. Looking forward to the next time we visit the Lake District to return.

We stumbled upon this B&B after struggling to get in anywhere else - but we were glad we did as it is excellent. It is spotless clean and very well presented. The room had nice touches like a teddy on the bed in a Chestnuts jumper and chocs on the bed. The breakfast was realy good too. From a practicle point of view it is on the edge of Bowness so it was about a 10-15 min walk into town down a bank. But if you can walk ok this isn't a problem. You also get access to a pool/sauna in another hotel. We would definitely stay there again !

We stayed at the Chestnuts last year and returned to Windermere this year for our anniversary and actually moved from our chosen (and more expensive) hotel up the road, back to Chestnuts. It hadn't been available for the beginning of our trip unfortunately.
If you are looking for a traditional, comfortable, friendly and good value B & B then Chestnuts will not disappoint. The entire building is kept spotlessly clean and the kingsize beds are lovely and comfortable. Breakfast is fresh and of a very good standard and the hosts are friendly and helpful. We have stayed in the Lake district many times and this is our favourite hotel. We have stayed in many different hotels of varying standards and cannot fault this place for the price at all.
There are nice little touches too, like a selection of DVDs, iPod docking stations and bathrobes.
We won't be able to go back next year as we are expecting our first baby and they do not cater for children, but we would recommend to anyone wanting a nice comfortable and relaxing break in a very good location (small walk to either Bowness or Windermere). We will hopefully be back one day!

We stayed here with 2 sets of friends for the August Bank Holiday. The welcome was warm and the rooms very comfortable and clean. All the various breakfast options were tried by our party and all agreed they were excellent and just the job before a day's walking. The location is ideal, a short 5 minutes walk into Windermere village and a litle longer downhill into Bowness and the lake, with umbrellas available should you need them. All in all a really great choice and we would be very happy to return for another visit.

Room Tip: Book early as it was one of the few places still full after the holiday weekend

Lovely room, nicely decorated.very comfortable bed and very clean. There was usual tea and coffee, and hot choscolate too which was a nice extra touch. There was plenty of choice for breakfast and ask presented nicely. We only stayed the one night but would certainly return if we were in the area again. Added bonus there was parking too.

What a lovely place this is. Lovely welcome. When booking I was delighted to hear that they have supr king size beds which we are used to at home. We are not large people but the extra comfort of this was fabulous, highly recommended. This guest house just out of town which was lovely as it was a little quieter but a very walkable in to the town.
The breakfasts were wonderful, you won't go away hungry I can assure you. Heather and Nigel bent over backwards to give us breakfast a little earlier than usual as we were involved in a charity fundraising event.
Thank you for a lovely stay and we will hopefully see you again.

Wonderful B&B - convenient location within walking distance of center of town on a quiet street off the main road, very well maintained, spotlessly clean everywhere and with a nice garden where you can sit and relax. Breakfast is great - large portions and very tasty food - cooked by Nigel, the owner. Both Nigel and Heather are very friendly and helpful. A great place to stay in the Lake District.

Room Tip: Room 1 on the ground floor is great for those with much luggage
