Arrived 10th Feb - Room 9

Arrived early and had a wander round the hotel (check-in from 3pm) but was advised we could check in about 2:30 so always with asking if room is ready. Def worth having a wander round the hotel to find everything, it’s like a maze!!
Staff very attentive and very friendly/professional.
Was going to have lunch but quite a limited menu. 5 choices for meals and then sandwiches/wraps. So went into Ambleside for lunch (Wateredge Inn - Superb!!) about a 5/10min drive away.
On return to the hotel, we checked into Room 9, again, staff excellent.

ROOM 9 - Classic Double overlooking a courtyard. Huge king bed, I’m 6ft4 and perfect size! 2 huge pillows, and really comfy. TV on the wall with freeview, decent size and fine to watch if lying on the bed.
All tea/coffee as expected, jar of sweets and biscuits (also a box of chocolates as it was my birthday - thank you). Hairdryer, (iron & board on request) Bathroom with all shower gels/shampoos and a great powerful rain shower. Couldn’t fault the room, superb.

GROUNDS of the hotel are stunning. Lovely to walk around, right on the lakeside. You can walk down to the lakeside. Got some stunning photos! The hotel is beautiful from the outside too. Right next to Brockhole Visitor Centre and easy to walk to if you’re visiting. The Lake Cruise has a jetty at Brockhole to ferry around the lake/Ambleside/Bowness etc.

FOOD & DRINKS were fantastic. Over 60 types of gin, ciroc vodka, extensive wine menu and really knowledgeable staff!
Not overly priced either (price list attached) Bar menu is the same as the lunch menu so quite limited so went for the £39pp 5 course meal. Starter/sorbet/main/desert/coffee. Also had a canapé whilst ordering (a large battered fish strip, a chip and some crushed peas - really nice)
Had Pork Belly and my wife had Salmon starter!! AMAZING!!! Then the Venison (£5 supplement) and the Lamb Shoulder, VERY filling and again fantastic. Sticky Toffee and Creme Brullee for desert. Great value for a 4 course meal (didn’t have coffees)

OVERALL it’s a stunning hotel in an idyllic remote location but close to Ambleside set in stunning grounds with really friendly, professional staff. SUPERB STAY!!!

Stayed overnight at the hotel and had a very pleasant stay. Very friendly receptionist called Eva showed us to our room and then round the hotel. We were in the newer part of the hotel and the room was great with views over the gardens at the rear of the hotel.

We unpacked and then went down for cream tea and an added bonus of a glass of wine in one of the lounges, we sat in a large bay window which had fantastic views over the lake and mountains. We enjoyed our cream tea and the views made it.

Back in our room we had a lazy bath and chilled out for a hour. Large tv on wall opposite the king size bed, the room was lovely and warm, good thick curtains and very tastefully decorated.

We ate in the bar rather than the restaurant as the cream tea had filled us up and the 4 course meal on offer seemed a little too much food at 8.30 at night. That said the Club sandwich we both ordered was huge, with salad and chips. Bar prices pretty normal for hotels, and bar staff very friendly.

We had a great nights sleep and both enjoyed the English Breakfast before checking out. Breakfast good And a choice of two dining rooms, both with pleasant decor and views.

Thanks for a great stay in a fantastic location. Would definitely stay again when the weather gets a bit warmer and drier!!!

A nice hotel in a lovely setting, the staff where friendly and helpful. The original part of the hotel had lovely log fires that were very welcome after a day walking. The hotel was a bit tired but this could be seen as character. The food was very good even the bar snacks were tasty. My only reservation is it is a dog friendly not very good if you have allergies.

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend spent at Cragwood Country House Hotel and I have to say that it is a stunningly beautiful location. We stayed in the original part of the building and the view over the lake from our room was amazing.

The room itself was spotless and very comfortable but there were a couple of point to be aware of. 1 the bathroom is very small and for a gentleman of my frame so it was a little too snug to be able to move around freely. 2, the TV was unwatchable not that you go on holiday to watch TV but when I tried to use it to watch briefly the picture just pixelated so badly it was impossible to watch.

I did have on real issue with the hotel though, which is why I have only awarded four stars rather than five and that is the policy to allow dogs. It's nice to escape from the hustle and bustle of your daily life style now and again and to just be able to relax but with the constant sound of yappy little dogs whilst we were there peace and quiet was the last thing we got.

I also presume that certain areas for dogs are supposedly out of bounds such as the dining areas but the one next to the bar has a cut through from one side of the hotel and on our first evening a man walked through with his dog, which judging by his pace he was clearly aware that it was not allowed but he did it non the less.

OK that's my main gripe over with so now it's time for the plus points. Firstly all the members of staff that we encountered during our stay were a credit to the hotel and it's clear that they all take a great pride in their jobs and all were a pleasure to meet.

The little added touches like the jar of sweets in our room, the very nice toiletries and even the speed of the room being serviced whilst we were having breakfast was excellent.

All in all a very pleasant stay, just a shame about the annoying little dogs

Room tip: Bathroom in room 3 is very small

Just back for a one night stay and had a lovely time. We were delighted to be given a large room overlooking the lake. The room itself was a little dated in decor and the bathroom was small but the view more than made up for that. The hospitality tray was well stocked and thete was a nespresso machine, water and sweets!
We ate in the restaurant in the evening and I have to say it was the nicest meal we have had in a long while, absolutely beautiful food. Breakfast was also lovely.
I would highly recommend a stay here, all the staff were friendly and tge views jist fantastic.
