I booked to stay at the Savoy in Blackpool for New Year to be told that it doesnt mean you stay at a particular hotel but they can put you in any of the groups hotels...WHAT! consequently I ended up in the rather dowdy Norbreck castle...to ease my pain they gave me an upgrade to a room with a non working juccuzi...poor TV and shabby wallpaper and corridors that a st Bernard would get lost in...the breakfast was in an aeroplane hanger and the staff not overly friendly. I would never book through them again...so dont go on the savoy site thinking you will stay there as YOU WONT!
Another group should have been staying at pontins in Southport...it was a shock to them when they ended up at Blackpool...very misleading

Room Tip: never mind room - is the hotel you wanted

I agree the Norbreck has seen better days however i must add this positive review, our room was in the annexe and was clean with plenty of towels tea making things and shower gels etc. The weather was very windy so yes the glass rattled a bit. It was actually a family room for 5 with a comfy king size bed bunk beds and a single bed. Both mornings the breakfast was piping hot and the bacon was more like Gammon. Yes you had to Q however we knew it was self service and had over 400+ rooms so do not book if you dont like this idea. The price is always very very cheap. We got the bargain of the year at 52 pence per person per night. So thank to the Norbreck, it was a fantastic base for the January sales.

We have stayed at the Norbreck Castle many times over the years, which we have never had any compaints, but on our latest stay the, 27/12/2011 to 30/12/2011, we found that the hotel has fallen well below in its standards and cleanliness, the room was thick in dust, as was the supposedly decorative lighting on the stairs, the plates and cups in the restaurant were very dirty and greasy, the kitchen staff themselves looked in need of a good clean up as well as their uniforms, as they were grey in colour, the beer was very flat and overpriced, the entertainment was " Britains Got Talent" rejects, and they were very very poor, overall our opinion of the Norbreck, is to give it a wide berth unless they make vast improvements in the very near future.

we have stayed here a few times with no problem but went betwen xmas and new year and it was awful, entertainment was terrible, and thats being kind, the hotel was dirty and meal times was like being in a concentration camp, dirty filthy people mauling the food and the staff kicking food under the tables instead of picking it up.

Oh and £3.25 for bitter and lager and £3.20 for a normal size glass of wine and 80p for crisps.

never again

Room Tip: my tip is get a room in another hotel

We had read the reviews before we decided to book this hotel, but nevertheless decided to book. On arrival I was a little disappointed as the entrance does look a little tired. However the reception staff were very pleasant and helpful and they were throughout our stay.

Our room was a twin room No 348 and did look tired, but we had the view we had requested, and the most important things for me was clean bedding 10/10, the bath was spotless, very clean, not a speck of dirt as was the toilet and sink 10/10. Ample tea and coffee facilities.10/10 for cleanliness.

Evening meal, we were shown to our table, I lost count of the number of tables at 93, starter was served at your table, the main meal was self service buffet style and the selection was lasagne, chicken, fish and pork with vegetables. There were a large number of waiting on staff, we were on table 44. I couldn't fault any of the staff who were most attentive to our needs, quick and efficient and should be commended. We didn't experience any problems and it was an enjoyable evening with live entertainment.

Breakfast, fruit juices, assortment of cereals, fresh fruit, cheeses, cooked breakfast, toast and jam. Good selection. The Gala Dinner room was very festively decorated and looked good, it was an equally good night with good food and entertainment. Again, the Maitre D and his waiting staff should be commended in planning and organising such a seam free serving of food and drink.

This is economically a difficult time and whilst one can imagine what a gorgeous place the hotel would be if adequate money was able to be spent updating the decor, I would far sooner see all those people kept in a job than to have material things and too few staff.
The price was very competitive compared to other hotels offering a similar package. The issues that people complain about are management issues for which the staff have no control.
