Recently stayed here for one night. Room absolutely fantastic, with plenty of places to eat and drink a short taxi ride away (although we did walk there and taxied back). There is a small restaurant on site but the hotel doesn't really do too much to advertise what's available and prices. Overall the value is brilliant and thought the hotel would be great for a couples or a small group of girls wanting a spa weekend with the draw of the bars not to far away.

We have stayed in this hotel for a number of years, however, we decided to go back for another year with 5 people. The service on arrival was fantastic with friendly staff and well managed phone lines, so when we ran out of milk in the room (for example!) they were round within 5 minutes. Even in the early hours of the morning, on our return to the hotel, the staff wished us a good night and chatted to us in friendly manners.
The hotel is out of town a bit, but it is a 10minute walk from the station (however, a free shuttle service is available. We just chose not to use this).
I brought my PS3 along and we constantly had Ipods playing in surround sounds throughout the room and provided dock. The Jacuzzi bath was fantastic and every morning I woke up to an illuminated bath with relaxing jets, whilst watching TV!
The gym is a good size, and was quiet when we went. The jacuzzi and sauna were fantastic, however we were a little disappointed in the resistance pool (which is around 10ft by 4ft apx) and steam room, as both didn't really work to their full potential.
The price was fantastic, with the hotel doing me fantastic deal, which came up being about £10 more expensive than a travel lodge, in comparison! The prices of the mini-bar and food are expensive, but local shops are handy for shopping and getting in cheaper drinks.

Overall, We will definitely stay in this hotel next year.

Thanks very much

I cant say anything about the hotel, food, spa etc as I checked in here a little bit worse for wear! I got a good deal on a Thames room and the view was as described.
The room itself was amazing with some lovely touches. Big well designed bathroom and many cool gadgets that I would have appreciated if I wasnt a little boozy!
Overall I would highly recommend this gem of a hotel to anyone and would like to stay here properly and enjoy everything it has to offer.

I stayed here for business, only one word to describe the experience, excellent. The reception staff greet you with a wonderful smile, the rooms are exceptionally clean & well presented.
The view from room 201 was very pleasant, looking out over the Thames. The bar, the same as most London hotels was pricey, but the views from the panoramic windows make it well worth while.
It was a pity I did not have time to visit the spa, therefore cannot comment on that.
Hotel is situated approximately 10 mins from central London, therefore a £15 taxi ride takes you from the quiet tranquil setting straight into the hussel & bussel of the City.
Would most certainly stay here again

I have recently returned from a weekend away with friends where we had a group booking at the Rafayel.
Initial experiences were not good, as some of us we were arriving into Clapham Junction and wanted to take advantage of the free shuttle service. We called 30 minutes before as advised, and the person we spoke to said that she would call us right back. We waited but received no phone call. This also happened to other members of the party arriving separately from us. In the end we decided to take a taxi to the hotel. Once we arrived, we found out from another member of the group that had managed to get the shuttle service to collect them, that they were sat outside Clapham Junction station waiting for us! We raised this in reception when we arrived but the staff didn’t really have an answer for us.
The check in experience was fine and went smoothly, although the receptionist did try to re-charge for the rooms even though they already had been paid for. This was quickly resolved and we were given 4 triple rooms, each room having a double bed and a put up bed.
I have to say that the room and overall hotel appearance is very nice, decorated to a high standard and comfortable, and deserve the four stars. However, on reading other reviews and the Hotel Managers feedback, I was interested to read that ‘When a guest arrives, we pick him at the station, his luggage is taken in, and he is offered iced tea or water for no charge while being checked in and then escorted to his room’ (Chris de Saram – posted 10 October 2010). We didn’t receive any of these services and carried our own bags to our room!
Some of us went to the restaurant to order some food before we had to leave, and asked whether they would be able to cater for us in the short timeframe (within 30 mins) - we were told that sandwiches would be ok, so 6 of us each went to order sandwiches and Panini's, along with glasses of Prosecco. 10 minutes later we were told that because we had ordered Panini’s they would not have time to make them, so we asked them to give us whatever flavour they could make in time for us. We were advised that we could have ham and cheese sandwiches and we agreed. 15 minutes later, 6 toasted ham and cheese Panini’s arrived! By this point, we only had 5 minutes to eat and leave, so we took them without complaint but did ask why we couldn’t have the sandwiches we ordered as they had toasted them anyway – the staff had no answer for this.
The food the next morning was also poor, we ordered scrambled eggs, teas and toast, as we missed the 10.30 deadline for the full breakfast. We had to ask twice for the toast as it didn’t arrive, and the scrambled eggs (with bacon) were overcooked, dry and excessively over-seasoned – it only tasted of salt. We left the eggs on the plate but no-one asked whether they were ok, just took the plate away.
We also had problems with the shuttle leaving the hotel turning up late, causing us to arrive late for our arrangements in Clapham, with taxi’s ordered by the hotel turning up late and two cars instead of one as requested, I could go on!
All in all, I would definitely not stay there again - without exception every since member of staff working at the hotel did not offer the level of service I would expect of a four/five star boutique hotel.
It is a shame, as the hotel has the potential to be excellent, but needs to make radical changes to staff and processes before that can get even close to this.

Dear Guest

At the outset please let me reassure you that we do appreciate feedback from our customers and scrutinize them thoroughly. I have personally investigated into the areas of your negative comments. While we appreciate your positive comments, we wish to address a few points in your review with the findings of our investigation.

As we have mentioned many times before our shuttle service is provided to facilitate our guests because of our location. We provide this service on the newest and the most technologically advanced Seat cars which are also eco friendly. In fact we like to encourage ‘car sharing’ as it is one of the most recommended ways of reducing CO2 emissions. We try our best to be punctual but there could be the rare occasion, the shuttle may be delayed due to traffic specially during the peak rush hours, and this is beyond our control. This is the best we can do and there are no other hotels that offer this service. On this occasion there has been confusion due to many of your group requesting to be picked up at about the same time. We are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience it caused you.

We are glad you liked the overall appearance and cleanliness of the hotel. We do escort our guests to the rooms at most times but may have been unable to do so due to the group being checked in to different parts and floors of the hotel.
We do have our own brand of water available at the Reception counter, and regret that you have not noticed it. Iced tea is being served too but was temporarily taken off due to the cold weather. We are sorry if we did not meet upto your expectations and could not be escorted to your room.

With reference to your comments regarding the order in the restaurant please note that it is the accepted norm for dishes from an A la Carte menu to take upto 20 minutes for preparation, in any fine dining restaurant like ours. Our chef has introduced Paninis as an afternoon light option and they are prepared fresh with each order. It takes 15-20 minutes to prepare them and we did manage to produce 6 Paninis with light fillings within 15 minutes !

Six portions of scrambled eggs were prepared for your group and we are sorry if they were dry. We have never had similar complaints before and in fact our Breakfast buffet is complimented by most of the guests who enjoy the experience overlooking the River Thames.

Most of our staff are graduates holding Masters Degrees in hospitality and are trained to be polite, friendly and efficient. They have been praised hundreds of times in this forum. We are a fledging business in a highly competitive environment, and at Rafayel we go out of our way to please our guests in every possible way.

Thank you once again for your patronage of Rafayel on the Left Bank – Hotel & Spa.

Best Regards
Chris de Saram

I'll cut to the chase, The hotel room's and facility's were great! It's near the london heliport so you can watch the harrods helicopter ferrying people around. We had a nice walk into chelsea and some lunch then walked quite a distance past Buckingham Palace and Picadilly then when we were ready just jumped on a bus back so the location is pretty good. The room and view were excellent, the staff were friendly although during the evening meal it was a struggle to get their attention for drinks or the bill ect I was pleasantly suprised when I received the bill of only £35 pounds considering the food and the view were fantastic so I must say even with the slight service issue we were very happy! we retired to the room and had a fantastic nights sleep no noise and a very comfortable bed. The following morning afer check out we were a little dissapointed that they had seemingly forgotten to get our car? we had to ask reception twice and were left standing there for arounds 30 minutes in total! on balance we would recommend the hotel and would stay again it's not quite five star service yet but It's an up and coming hotel that I think will get there in the end by which point the prices will probably go up dramaticaly to suit.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Thames / Helipad

We have returned home today from a one night stay at Hotel Rafayel and felt compelled to tell what a wonderful experience we had.My mother (age 90) stayed in a Thames view room (121) which was easily accessed by lift.On stepping in to the room my mother,husband,15 year old son and myself were blown away by its size, contemporary and luxurious decor and furnishings, but all of these things were secondary to the stunning views through the floor to ceiling windows across the Thames.
We then went to check out our room,a Nile suite (104),which we understood to have partial river views. Again the size and quality of the furnishings were fabulous, together with 3 televisions, including one at the end of the jacuzzi bath, which our 15 year old decided was a perfect way to spend an hour and and a half chilling, watching tv in a jacuzzi ! Our partial river view was still very good.
We attended a matinee performance in the west end, which we drove our car easily to from the hotel,in fact the journey by car took us 25 minutes right to the theatre entrance at Piccadilly Circus.
On returning to the hotel we had a drink in The Banyan Bar at the hotel, followed by the most delicious meal in the Banyan overlooking the river. The service received and quality of our food was superb.
Having had a great night's sleep in the hotel's massive and most comfortable beds, we enjoyed a tasty and plentiful breakfast this morning, watching rowers on the river and a helicopter taking off from the Heliport, with no noise intrusion whatsoever.
Finally we would just like to say how friendly, attentive, professional and polite all the staff are at the hotel, and on checking out this morning,by coincidence we met the hotel's owner who genuinely cares whether guests enjoy their stay.We were certainly able to tell him about our great experience.Without a doubt we will be back - soon, hopefully !

Room Tip: Without a doubt, room 121 has views to die for.
