We had a lovely overnight stay at this hotel. Our room was a junior suite which was beautiful. A very old building with lots of character. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was very nice. Overall a lovely hotel I will certainly stay again.

I stayed at the hotel early February 2012. The location was great and buses run past the hotel frequently giving access to the main sights in London very easily. Whilst the staff at the hotel were courteous and helpful the bedrooms were a source of major dissappointment. The rooms were small, infact they were taller than they were wide or long. The pillows were synthetic and 10cms high so sleeping gave you a cricked neck - no other pillows were available. There may have been a minibar at one time as there was a "cube" with a sign on for mini bar but no fridge inside. The bathroom taps were loose and tiles in the bathroom broken and severly cracked and misfitted. The door onto the patio was only kept closed with a small latch, no key or lock. The main entry door was not as secure as it could be as the chain latch was broken. All the problems were reported to the staff but nothing could be done during my stay (2 nights). Whilst the communal areas and breakfast was fine the rooms leave a lot to be desired.

The best things about this hotel are the staff that are very friendly and courteous, the comfortable lounge and the location. We had booked a standard room and checked on the web what to expect and also read the Trip advisor reviews. We were very disgruntled about our room. No way did it come up to our expectations nor was it as described in their publicity. You will see from the photos what the room was no more than a corridor, we had to pull the bed out for my husband to get in and out of bed; this left about 18 inches or less to walk in. There was only one chair and no bedside tables. The hotel had provided a convection heater as the draft from the windows billowed the curtains about a yard from the window. The windows, which were French doors did not open. The bathroom was the same very small size, you had to come into the bedroom to get dried. Room number 102, so be warned. We had asked and was given a room at the front. We had also asked for adjoining rooms with my daughter, room 101. This was nearly as bad.

Room Tip: Do not chose room either 101 or 102 if there are two of you.

We stayed at the Thistle for eight nights and it was the best in all aspects.
To start off with, we got a room upgrade as we arrived on January 31st. The room was gorgeous with a huge bed, a little living room and a beautiful and functional bathroom.
The staff was the kindest ever. I cannot remember a single person who was not sweet. there was a little booklet with the "twelve days of Christmas" with promotions ranging from free lunch for two to free work out...
The breakfast staff was very gentle and the food was good too.
No request was unattended.
The best part was that we left London and traveled around the UK for about 20 days and left a suitcase stored there. When we got back to London to pick it up before going on with our vacaltion, they lent us a conference room so that we could "repack" before going on... the best part... free of charge.
We have stayed at other five star hotels such as the Hilton and the Marriot and we elect !THISTLE the best in all aspects...
