“Good service, Good position”
Reviewed 8 April 2012 via mobile

We stay often at this hotel and of late the staff are outstanding and helpfull. The hotel is in a great position if you need to be near Oxford street and also a close walk to Hyde park. The concierge service is superb. Rooms have recently been done and are very comfortable with nice HD tv,s. We will always go back.

What a gorgeous place! Olde London at its finest, with tea service and biscuits and all! They went all out with the food, the hospitality, and the service. This place is within minutes of pubs, Hard Rock Cafe, Hyde Park, and easily walkable to Herrods and other attractions. A bit pricey, rooms are smaller than in the U.S., but well kept, and great amenities with a super comfortable bed! Bring your "dress-up clothes" as people love to be seen here. The fitness center is just right if you go early in the day---enough to do there.

Room Tip: any room is good..all are very quiet!

I stayed here recently for a business trip. We arrived in the evening, and the concierge and front desk staff were extremely welcoming and helpful, also throughout the entire stay. Check-in was quick and efficient. My room was great; very roomy, with four poster king sized bed. The bathroom was small but very well appointed.

Breakfast was delicious in the spacious restaurant.

It was a short walk to Oxford Street & the Bond Street tube station, also to Hyde Park.

Overall, a really enjoyable stay.

Spent four nights (Friday through Monday) at this Marriott in Mid-March for a brief pleasure trip to London. Generally very pleased with the product and the service. My thoughts are as follows:
Check in. Arrived at about 8 am after an all night flight from the States. The lobby was not large or ornate but very serviceable and personally I hate when hotels spend a lot of money on an ornate lobby -- I'd rather have them put the money into the room where I sleep. My wife and I were immediately serviced by a very friendly and efficient person at the front desk. Our room was not yet ready (we were not surprised at this) but the person at the front desk personally took us down to the Concierge Lounge where we had breakfast. We left our bags at the hotel and started some shopping on Oxford Street when we got a call at about 10 am that our room was ready. I had expected a longer wait because the hotel was quite crowded and I was very pleased with the short delay.

Room. We had booked a Superior Room and were very pleased with the size of both the room and the bathroom. The room had a four poster bed, high ceilings, sofa and writing desk. Several draws to store clothing and shelves in the closet. The area to hang clothes was not very large and I could see this being something of an issue if you were trying to hang two or three heavy coats but it did not bother us. Lighting was good and the room appeared to be in very good condition. Not sure when it was rennovated last but it was pleasantly airy and well kept. Bathroom was quite large with lots of shelf space to keep toiletries. It appears from some of the posts that different rooms have different sized bathrooms, so you may want to check, but this was certainly quite spacious. Water pressure in the shower was excellent. Shampoo, conditioner etc was of good quality.

Location. As most posts agree, this is an excellent location for walking around London. Except to go to the Theater we would always walk from the hotel. Very easy to get to all the London shopping areas and the theater district with short walks (not more than 30 minutes). It is correct that the hotel is not directly on Grosvenor Square but this made no difference.

Restaurants. We did not eat in the hotel so can't comment on that. We did get snacks and drinks at the Concierge Lounge. The Lounge is in the basement so that there is no view but that didn't bother us at all. Good selection of free drinks. I thought the food selection could have been a bit more extensive, but it was free after all. Usual papers and magazines. Generally a good place for a short drink and a snack. There are a number of restaurants near by, several fiercly expensive but some quite reasonable. We asked for recommendations from the Concierge for two Italian restaurants. we were particularly pleased with a more casual one about 3 minutes away (walking) called Le Genova. The other Italian recommendation, Ciprioni, was very highly priced for OK food, although it was pretty good for people watchin.

Other. Only two elevators in the lobby and they were pretty slow although not to the extent of heavily annoying us. Housekeeping was good and efficient. We were not overlooking the street so that the room was quiet. Used the gym a couple of times. Not large but a number of machines and free weights. I could see it getting backed up though if it were crowded. All in all a very nice stay and a good property.

I feel that I have found a little gem in the heart of London with the Marriott.
Its rates are always reasonable and the location for the west end is ideal.
I would suggest a slightly upgraded room as the basic room is a little small with a small bed, but all the rooms we have stayed in are a similar style, contemporary , clan and sufficient of r a stay in London. Perhaps you would go for a suite if staying for more than a couple of days and a club room is always a bonus!
It has Maze and Maze Grill by Gordon Ramsey on site which are both brilliant.
Breakfast is served in Maze grill too.

I will continue to book the marriott when visiting the west end because while there may be more luxurious options, this is great value for money.
The only downside though is that there is no bar.

Room Tip: Grosvenor square view room. Not for the view but they are slightly upgraded from a basic room so lar...
