We stayed for 2 nights at the Corus Hotel on the 13th and 14th July for the Hard Rock Calling festival. Initial impressions of the hotel were very good, although the reception staff could have been more welcoming. It would have been nice to have had the offer of being shown to our room and our bags being carried.

I imagine from the pictures on the website that the hotel is in the process of upgrading rooms. We had one that was yet to be refurbished on the first floor. The room itself was adequate and looking out over Hyde Park. Despite being in a room directly on the Bayswater Road there was no traffic noise whatsoever. It was clean and well presented, although the carpet was a bit shabby and it would have benefited from an opening window as it was a bit musty. The air conditioning was very efficient though! The bathroom was small but acceptable and the towels were clean and fresh. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in! I wish I could have taken it home!

There are 2 restaraunts, one of which, Bel Canto, has live opera singers. I'm sure this is great if it is your thing and indeed it was packed both nights, however we avoided it like the plague. We ate in the hotel's other restaurant, Olio's, which serves both Malaysian and English food. We mixed and had superb Malaysian starters and mains and an English pudding. We had the Moccachino which we both agreed was (in the words of Greg Wallace) a triumph! Definitely worthy of Masterchef!

Unfortunately, we were both ill on our first day in London and went to bed at 10.30 pm (unheard of for us!). Even more unfortunately, we fell into bed hoping to feel better in the morning and were greeted by Fifty Shades of Sound Effects coming from the room next door! After half an hour we applauded and cheered and managed to sleep, to be woken again in the middle of the night and then again at 6.10 am when another of the neighbours was shouting at the hyperactive couple just outside our door! Obviously, we didn't sleep well but this wasn't a reflection on the hotel, just inconsiderate guests. Folks, have fun by all means, but please do have some respect for your neighbours!

Feeling better on the Saturday, we landed in the bar after the festival. There was an issue serving drinks to guests who hadn't registered a credit card once the tills were closed which is something that should be mentioned/suggested when you check in. However, this didn't effect us and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. So much so that we were up until 6.30 am!

A couple of the staff in particular made our stay more memorable: Pablo, in the restaurant, who was very friendly and helpful and Frank who tended to food and drinks during the day and is a real gentleman. Thank you both!

To sum up, we enjoyed our time at the Corus. If we hadn't been ill it would have been perfect! There are improvements to be made but the staff and the atmosphere won through. We would definitely stay again!

I have just arrived back home after spending 3 nights at the Corus Hotel in Hyde Park. It is a very nice hotel in an excellent location, just off the Bayswater Road. Yes the bedrooms are small, but who goes to London to sit in their room? It was clean with plenty of hot water, a good shower, tea & coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board. The bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. Our room was at the side of the hotel, so cannot comment on the street noise, but we did have a very noisy family next door, who screamed at their kids until 1 in the morning and decided to have showers at that time also. One very small thing, the hairdryer is located in the bathroom and if you have hair like mine that is difficult to blow dry, then bring your own. I found the hairdryer heated up in your hand and i had to keep stopping and starting, the heat in the bathroom also builds up, so by the time you have got your hair dry you would need another shower! However, this is not a major problem and is only my personal opinion, so do not let it put you off. The hotel is in a really great location, literally next door to Lancaster Gate tube, which will take you directly into the heart of the city in 10 minutes. If you like to walk you can cut through Hyde Park which is just across the road and this will take you to Kensington, Knightsbridge and Buckingham Palace. The staff at the hotel are lovely, very friendly and helpful and breakfast was first class with a good choice. A bonus for us was a great table at the window looking across at Hyde Park. There is also a guy playing the piano in the evening which is good if you come back early and would like a drink. He is willing to play any song for you. There is also free wi-fi which is another bonus. Thanks to all the staff at the Corus.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, maybe a room on one of the top floors at the side might be best. We were on the 4th floor and it was grand.

Hotel has a good location, depending on what you want to do in London. Stayed for three nights from 16 July 2012. Close to metro and bus, Kensington Park and Notting Hill. Transport routes even in the early hours are right at the door. Hotel staff are friendly however it's evident they've all been encouraged to try and upswell the rooms upon check-in. Room sizes (standard) are absolutely tiny however this isn't a surprise given other experiences. The bathroom in room 516 was very small with an overhead in the shower which prevented anyone from standing under the shower head!!! The toilet flush had to be pumped to get it to work at all.

When you check in make sure you tell them to ask the cleaning staff to knock or at least visit after any normal person on holidays would have vacated the room! Two mornings received a head through the door between 8.30 and 9am!! Checkout was 12 noon which is good however even on day of departure cleaners were trying to come earlier!

Concierge was helpful. Can sell hop on hop off bus tickets and were able to provide good directions. Hotel lobby and seating area is too loud for any conversations at night time, there's a piano bar downstairs which prevents the availability of any quiet area. Staff wouldn't even allow the business centre rooms to bemused to make a call!!

Hotel room walls are paper thin!! Conversations at normal speaking level could be heard through walls and doors in the corrridores. Even showering and toilet could be heard!

Beds (Ina double room) were right up against the wall so only enter and exit through one side. Linen was clean and soft. Bed and pillows were also soft, a little too soft for my personal preference.

There are plenty of breakfast options within 10 mins of the hotel do I'd advise caution when accepting to upgrade to a breakfast inclusive rate.

We stayed here for Hard Rock Calling week, and the simplest way to review this hotel would be to say "I Have absolutely no complaints about it"

Although a few of the reviews on here say the rooms are small, they are what you should expect of this price range in a large city such as London. My partner and I are both very tall and did not have any problem with the size of the bed or the room. Unless you are planning to spend all your time sitting in the bedroom then I cannot forsee a problem.

The room and bathroom were clean, well presented and the housekeeping prompt and thorough. The air con was excellent, very quiet and efficient.
An absolute bonus is the huge fluffy towels, excellent hot shower. The tea making facilities are more than adequate. We were on the 3rd floor and expected to have lots of traffic noise from outside but it was minimal, definitely did not disturb our sleep.

The staff were friendly and helpful.. Loved the pianist in the bar area on Thursday night, very entertaining.

I cannot comment on the food as we chose not to eat in the hotel.

Overall an excellent hotel, great location as only 3-4 mins from Lancaster Gate underground, and Hyde Park across the road.
