“Very nice quarters”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2012

The hotel was delightful; easy to find with good (but not cheap) parking just outside the London congestion zone. The room was very clean, new and well appointed and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful other than one staff member at check in. Curiously we were told we could not check in without producing our US passports, which we secured in a safe at friend's house. Eventually the clerk relented, but only after much hesitation. Since when was a valid credit card not sufficient at an English hotel?
Otherwise we were well pleased with the hotel and the value for money there.

Room Tip: Thw park view was nice, probably slightly noisier from traffic than the non view rooms.

We booked a two nights' midweek stay at this hotel and can highly recommend it to everyone.
We found the location to be ideal with easy access to parks and the west end and once inside we were really impressed with the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. All areas of the hotel were clean and tastefully decorated in a modern yet relaxed style. The room was spotless and very comfortable. The menu available tries to cater for all tastes across the day, which we found a bit unusual and limiting when we went for dinner (it included sandwiches and burgers which felt inappropriate for a 4 star hotel dinner menu). However, there were adequate range of traditional English and some international dishes available and the food we chose was tasty and well presented. Breakfast was excellent with very good quality food being cooked freshly throughout the morning. Overall we really enjoyed the stay and would not hesitate to return

Room Tip: Go for teh higher level if facing the park as these are quieter

Convenient location for west end and for visit to the Royal Albert Hall - a very pleasant stroll across the park opposite. Room was clean, tidy - small (?) yes but for a one night stay ideal. Breakfast was good too and then off to nearby Central Line tube station for easy journey to the 'City'.

The Thistle Kensington Gardens is just a couple of minutes’ walk away from Queensway tube station. There is a very useful ‘mini Waitrose’ in the Shell Garage situated below the hotel.

The rooms are perfectly comfortable but very small – the gap between the base of the bed and the wall is particularly narrow. The walk-in shower was excellent.

The staff were friendly and helpful, particularly the concierge. We were surprised to find that our room hadn’t yet been cleaned when we arrived back late one afternoon during our stay, but had no other complaints.

It was very cold during our visit, and it was good to see Kensington Gardens submerged under a dusting of snow.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your feedback. The Deluxe and Executive rooms at the hotel are far larger than the Standard rooms at the hotel plus they also benefit from views over the Park and are available at a supplement.

I hope to welcome you back again soon.

I have just returned from my second visit to this hotel in 6 months. It is very near to the tube station at Queensway - in what I think is a safe part of London - especially as I was travelling alone with 2 of my daughters. The rooms are cramped - but clean. The bathroom is also very small (with no bath in standard rooms). Breakfast is a bit of a rip off at £10 per person - especially as there are a couple of cafes just around the corner. However, having been to the Travel Lodge at Covent Garden and treated in a shocking fashion (they wouldn't allow us to leave our bags there until we were ready to catch the train home - nor would they allow us to leave our bags until their check in time - despite a very long journey and heavy bags, which we had to drag round Covent Garden for 2 hours...) staying at this hotel is in my opinion worth the extra money for a lot less stress...

The beds were OK - not particularly comfy, and the pillows are dreadful - hard and lumpy. And only 1 pillow each - and 1 spare.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing Hyde Park

Refurbished rooms are nice but small, escpacially the standard rooms.
Some rooms (suites) have very beautifull vieuws over Kensington Gardens.
Except Kensington Gardens no atractions are close by, but the tube (Queensway and Bayswater) are just a few minutes walk away.

Overall a nice hotel, location avarage, but you will need to find a very good deal to make it worth for this hotel.

Just written a review for a competitor hotel nearby and there is no contest, this is by far the better hotel. Friendly reception desk, nice decor, great rooms it's difficult to find fault with this hotel! Had it not been for the food being average at best it would have earned a full five stars. The fact the hotel is in a great central location makes the decision even easier. If you are looking for a London hotel whether work or pleasure then this one ticks all the boxes. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Some rooms even come with binoculars (to admire the view) but I think you have to pay an upgrade fee...
