I hadn’t been to the mayflower for years. The original plan was to do an 11 mile walk along the river and stop here for lunch, the weather had other ideas so just booked a table for lunch.
Good idea as it gets busy.
The staff were attentive and friendly. Got a table upstairs in the restaurant by the window with a view straight out onto the river. It is a beautiful old pub.
The menu gave plenty of choice and there were additional choices on the specials board.
The food was nice, good size, nice veg.
The only thing I would say is that it needed a bit more seasoning.
The moules in a giant pot on the next table smelt amazing.
I resisted dessert but it was hard with offers of crumble or sticky toffee pudding!
Good wine list too!
Hope to go back again when the weather is a bit nicer still bI can sit by the river in the sun.

It was very cramped in this old tavern. The apps were great and very generous. The wait service was marginal at best. You need to go to the bar and stand in a certain area to order beer or food. This may be the place to go when not busy.

Amazing pub, monumentally let down by your member of staff who was incredibly rude to myself and guests. I have frequented this pub for many years and have never been treated in such a derogatory manner. The member of staff in question had an Afro and mentioned, ‘he was not my pal and I to give him a 4,000 star rating on trip advisor for his service (sarcastic tone from him (he was horrible))- aye right pal, your customer service skills lead a lot to be desired.

Wonderful characterful authentic old world pub. Oak panelled. Nice cubby holes and corners to sit in. Real fire. Pleasant staff and good beer. If it was nearer London Bridge it would be heaving. Where it is it’s pleasantly buzzy. The main bar is quite dark as you’d likely expect in such an old pub, but the upstairs restaurant is much brighter with views over the river. Food is good by pub standards. Looks like the garden may be nice in the summer. Bit of a treat when so many old pubs have become an interior designed pastiche of the past. Refreshing.
