My friend and I had afternoon tea here on a Monday afternoon. She was visiting from the States and wanted a proper afternoon tea experience, I was meeting her with my four month old daughter, and was more then a little worried about what the experience would be, and if we'd feel welcome.
I shouldn't have worried at all. The experience was perfect from the moment we arrived (a bit drenched and bedraggled from shopping in the rain). We were genuinely welcomed by the staff at reception in The Park Room and shown a table with a lovely view and comfortably right in the middle of the room.
All of the staff were wonderful, very accommodating and kind. The setting couldn't have been better for my friend's visit. Lovely set table, a piano player, and the views over to Hyde Park (in the rain, but how quintessentially English; rain).
The food was very nice with lovely little touches here and there, and I have had a number of afternoon teas, so was very impressed with the quality and quantity at Grosvenor House. There were numerous finger sandwiches, scones with a choice of lovely jams, lots of petit fours to indulge on, plus slices of cake if you have room, and of course a choice of tea. Everything was delicious ( and I was amused by my friend realising that finger sandwiches are just what her grandmother made her when she was a child, "sandwiches with the crusts cut off" -- but they were very nice!) It was very good value for the price and the ambiance was great, a lovely afternoon spent at our leisure. With a box of goodies for her to take home as we couldn't finish it all! I will definitely recommend this afternoon tea and their service to everyone visiting and be will returning myself. It was wonderful. Thank you.
I must add that I personally feel that when going somewhere with such a young child; to where I know other people will be out enjoying their own special days, I don't want to interrupt their experiences. I knew that my daughter would be very good, and not disturb anyone else during their own experience, but The Grosvenor House didn't know she would be so good yet that never changed the way they were toward us. They were amazing with her and made us all feel welcomed so this made my afternoon all the more enjoyable. I have been many other places where families are expected to be found and not had such fantastic service or experience. The Grosvenor and staff should all feel proud.
