“Back again but with more problems than ever”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2012

This was my fourth stay at The Trafalgar. I have always loved it for its location and for its modern appealing rooms. In the past, there were a few issues but nothing too odd. This time around, it was a little different and, sadly to say, somewhat disappointing. In short, the problems were as follows:
- the cold water knob at the bathroom sink came off on several occasions. We asked them to fix it. They did but it continued to happen. I didn't mention it to them again because it was already our last day.
- one of the elevators failed while I was inside and I was stuck in there for about 10 minutes.
- I asked to be moved from the first room that was offered because the carpet seemed very stained abd the room did not have a separate shower. All rooms on my previous visits had a shower.
- the floors in the bathrooms appear to be very worn and stained. This was true of both our originally offered room and the one we ultimately accepted.
- on our second day, we returned to the room at 4pm to find that it had not been serviced. We notified the front desk and someone came right away. However, they were very quick and never emptied the garbage or returned the pillows to the bed. We ran into our next door neighbor who said that her room wasn't serviced either and that it was the second time that this happened in just a few days.

For our inconveniences, the hotel's guest manager offered us a glass of wine each. We took her up on it. I know they are trying to be nice and that was a kind gesture but somehow I felt that we could have been offered a bit more.

The real problem here is that when you look at the reviews, you get a series of complaints and then subsequent responses from management with their apology...... and that cycle repeats itself over and over again. It doesn't seem to really get better. The rates at this particular Hilton as compared to the other London locations are consistenly the highest. I take it that this is now solely based on location because it certainly does not warrant the prices.

I am a Diamond Hilton member and I come to London frequently but I need to think seriously about whether there will be future stays at the Trafalgar or whether I'm ready to move on.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. On check-in we were offered an upgrade costing £20 extra per night which would give us a view of the square. We paid it and guess what - no view over the square! If you craned your neck you could just glimpse the top of Nelson! On complaining we were told that actually we had paid the extra for a 'deluxe' room. What a joke, there was nothing deluxe about it. Apparently it was bigger than a standard double (which must be absolutely tiny). None of that was explained properly when we checked in. Anyway, we could have upgraded again apparently for another £50. We didn't bother. Having said all that, the location of this hotel is great, and our room was ok, it's just that if we had known what our extra £40 was for, we would have saved the money and bought a couple of extra drinks instead in the rooftop bar. Yes, only a couple extra - its a bit pricey!

Room Tip: Room 506 does Not have a view of the square.

First of all, thank you for you for taking the time, and sharing your experience at The Trafalgar with Trip Advisor readers.

We use feedback and comments from our guests to monitor our service levels and standards, and we are constantly working to improve our guests’ experience, and your feedback is a fantastic opportunity to focus in areas that at some point were not up to the standards we are thriving to deliver, and most importantly the standards our guests expect from us, so once again thank you!

Corrective action have been taken to ensure all our guests are clearly communicated of any offers we may have, in your case the upgrade from a Standard Room to a Deluxe.

Glad to learn that you found our location at Trafalgar Square convenient, with most of the major sights at walking distance.

Our Vista Bar, located on 6th floor with great views to the square offers a wide range of drinks with prices from £3.75, and mostly reflect the prices found in this area.

Looking forward for your next visit, which I am positive will be the most enjoyable.

My daughter and I stayed at the Trafalgar as a birthday treat for me. The staff were extremely friendly and courteous and it's location is ideal for the theatres, and sights of London. There was a wide selection at breakfast and I particularly enjoyed the fresh bread and the brie was delicious. Although the breakfast is buffet style my daughter had an omelette which was cooked to order and the Irish Maitre d' was attentive and friendly.
As my daughter had mentioned that it was my birthday, we returned to the hotel to find the staff had left a birthday cake, a bottle of wine and a card with the compliments of the hotel, which I thought was a thoughtful gesture.
All in all it was a very enjoyable stay and a hotel that I would definitely recommend.

If you are looking for a centrally located place to stay that has great service and nice rooms, this is it. The rooms are not cheap, but nothing in London is, but they are certainly worth every penny. From this location you can walk most anywhere in the city and save the cab fare. The rooms are nice, we had 2 at different ends of the floor and both were equally appointed and maintained. The staff was always helpful and available.

Wow - I wish Hilton properties in the US looked after their guests the way this property does. I have traveled close to 1000 nights over the last 10-years and the staff at this property rates in the top 5 locations ever. The location is right on Trafalgar Square and is within walking distance to Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, the British Museum, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, several bus stops, a few tube stations, etc, etc - a top location for a tourist. All are within 10-15 minutes walk.

The hotel has a roof top patio that was unfortunately closed due it not being in season yet (opens in April I believe); however, this did not diminish our stay. The restaurant is on the bottom floor and had wonderful staff. There is a bar / coffee & sitting area on the main floor. Be aware that this area could be a little loud in the evenings, but only added to the experience and was a good place to grab a coffee or pint of beer. There was some street noise - mostly sirens from police or ambulances going by, but this is to be expected in any major city center. Again - location can not be beat!

Restaurants are plentiful including a McDonald's and Little Frankies (American style food) within a couple of blocks. Breakfast at the hotel was great with excellent service and was included with our stay because of being a Hilton Hhonors members.

We stayed twice due to a 2-day break in Paris and stayed in two different rooms at this property. Both were similar and both were clean, very comfortable, and updated and good sized bathrooms. The hotel featured daily room service and also an evening turn-down service that we just couldn't pass up!

We traveled with a child and the hotel was super accommodating and appears to have made a friend for life. The hot chocolate from the restaurant is not to be missed! European hotels can be smaller (typically only 2 guests per room), but we had no issues at this property and worked out all the details via email prior to arrival. If you have any concerns - email them, they were great to work with.

Other recommendations while in London include taking a day (or two) trip to Paris if your time allows - it is definitely worth it if you have never been. Also, don't pass up the chance to see Stone Henge & Bath if you have the time - about a 1/2 to full day trip. The tube and buses are clean and easy to use and you can buy an all day travel pass that includes both.

Bottom line - we will be back and staying at this property the next time we find ourselves in London. Special thanks to the hotel management and staff for a great experience.

Room Tip: Just email and ask for help in choosing a good room - even if traveling with kids. Rooms facing the...

We stayed here for 4 nights last week and it was fabulous! The rooms were spacious, clean, and modern. They were the only Hilton who would guarantee connecting rooms. I'm so glad that made us choose them! The staff was top notch. From our server Stephanie who helped us during the VIP reception on Tuesday night, to Marli - the guest relations manager, to all of the staff who helped us during the delicious breakfast, and also the director of operations - all were wonderful to work with and did everything to make sure we were comfortable at all times. This hotel is directly in Trafalgar Square. You can walk around the corner to Buckingham Palace. We didn't know that until the 3rd day of our trip - we had taken the underground there and realized it was a 10 minute walk! I couldn't have asked for a better stay and we will choose this hotel again when we return to London. Thank you to all at the Trafalgar!!! See you soon!

Looking for a hotel in London?? Finding it difficult to choose a hotel in the hotel-jungle?? Believe me - your worries are over!!

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful decorated hotel for three nights and all our expectations were fulfilled. Before arrival we had asked for a room with a view and an upgrade to 'king deluxe' - it did cost a little extra (sure) but not only did we get a room as requested a special treat was waiting. When we entered our room a bottle of prosecco on ice was waiting!! We were thrilled!!
Going on our second honeymoon - without kids - this was the perfect choice of stay. Luxury big rooms, delicious breakfast, nice staff, beautiful decor etc. etc. ...And of course perfect location!!
A special thanks to Marli S. for our room-surprise :))
