Description: The Brigade Bar and Restaurant is setting the London restaurant scene on fire. Located in the old fire station, built following 1861’s famous Tooley Street Fire and leading to the creation of the first London fire brigades, The Brigade Bar and Restaurant is concerned not just with eating but with bringing people together to build a community enjoying new experiences together. While The Brigade, along with the Beyond Food Foundation, offers catering apprenticeships to the vulnerable, cookery courses, cookery schools for the keen and private dining for the VIP-minded, the centre of this fantastic venue is definitely the bar and restaurant. A sensory experience, guests are met with the aromas of tempting fresh cooking on arrival, the gentle buzz of conversation and attractive, modern surroundings creating a relaxed feel. Combining sophistication and rusticity, The Brigade’s menu focuses on good produce and traditional British cookery, a handful of classics and sharers adding to the mix. Drinks meanwhile are as well thought out as food, with clever cocktails, niche wines and micro-brewery beers making up an intriguing list.

“Great lunch and a great cause”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2013

Lunch at The Brigade is not only a great dining experience, but also supports a great cause championed by PwC - with trainee chefs (from local homeless) upstairs in the cookery school and downstairs serving in the bistro.
The Gressinham Duck Pie with figs was wonderful; and the Bramble and Hazelnut Crumble a great way to end lunch.
This is a wonderful plaec to have lunch in that part of the city.

Dear Amanda,

Thank you so much for your great review of Brigade! As a new Social Enterprise we are indeed working hard to constantly exceed customer expectation and to ensure we give back to the community through our work with the Beyond Food Foundation. The Apprentices are going into their final weeks of their program, only 5 weeks to go and they are doing fantastic. The new group of Apprentices will start in March and we are looking forward to welcome them to their new challenge!

Brigade also boasts Private Dining and Meeting space on our first floor and for those team building events we offer fantastic Cook Schools which are great fun, for more info on these just visit our site.

Thank you again and we hope to see you again soon at Brigade.

Best Regards,

Michael Westenbrink

“Adding back whilst experiencing full value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 January 2013

This is a great new restauarant that supports a great cause whilst delivering exceptional flavours. A good value menu with a great ambience that can be asolutely buzzing at times. Ideal for a quite dinner, off restaurant provate dining or seculded private dining - all work wonderfully well. Service at times can be slow, but is courteous and freindly. The food makes up for any short comings!

Dear Amanda,

Thank you very much indeed for your great review of Brigade! We are very proud of our Social Enterprise and the word is getting out there of what we are all about. The food is amazing, Classic British with a twist from Chef Founder Simon Boyle. Our 3rd group of Apprentices are getting close to the graduation date and we have started getting the next group in for March.

My apologies for the comment regarding the slow service at times, I will discuss this with my teams to ensure we work on this aspect to better the overall experience.

Thank you again and I hope we will see you again soon at Brigade, by the way the new menu will be introduced in March........!

Best Regards,

Michael Westenbrink

“Brigade (Fire Station) social enterprise - an idea and food that's truly on fire”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 January 2013

Was taken to Brigade for an enjoyable business lunch. The company was already a pleasure to be with and spent a while just chatting.

Service was just the right mix of unobtrusive yet observant arriving at just the right time with menus, to take orders and and food were all splendid. We skipped the starters but did nibble on the platter of breads all lovely, warm and fresh with a generous pat of butter to load up the warm buns.....

I ended up pinching the crispy large cut chips from my colleagues rib eye steak. My stone bass was done to perfection and just the right portion size. Would have liked more spinach and the roasted side of carrots to have been a bit more roasted and less steamed in texture but am a crunch- hound so maybe a bit too critical.

Oh, and the pudding.... the fruity crumble was a lovely portion and crunchy... a delicious topping that was sprinkled with hazelnuts and other crunchy bits... the warm swoosh of custard over the top was a silky complement to the mini scoop of ice-cream nestling in the centre of the crumble.

Will definitely go again!

Dear TripAdvisor Reviewer,

Many thanks for your fantastic detailed review, great to see you had an amazing experience here at Brigade. We work hard every day to get the service to that unobtrusive level and as you have seen we are always on the ball when the guests needs us. The Steak and Stonebass are fantastic dishes, thank you for bringing to my attention your comments regarding the Spinach and Carrots, I will discuss this with my Head Chef.

And the dessert, well what can I say they are all too delicious!

Our new menu will be introduced in early March and just so you know Brigade also boasts some great Private Dining Rooms and Meeting Space on our first floor!

I hope to see you again soon at Brigade.

Best Regards,

Michael Westenbrink

“Average Food, Poor Service”

Poor service, average food and high prices. Rather avoid this restaurant and try the Hilton hotel down the road.

Dear Graham,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review, unfortunately one that is dissappointing to read, in particular the fact it is such a short review without many details of your visit.

It is extremely important to me to fully understand what our customer experiences are and if we made any mistakes or did not meet expectations it is imperative we understand why in order to change.

Can I kindly ask you to contact me direct on mwestenbrink@thebrigade.co.uk so we can discuss your experience in much greater detail?

Best Regards,

Michael Westenbrink

After having walked past this place several times we actually went in for dinner , what can I say!! We won't be walking past again, it was a revelation , such a fun and vibrant atmosphere and food to die for, didn't find out till after that they do some kind of Jamie Oliver training with the homeless , well done brigade , a top class establishment with a conscience
