“nice place, good location”
Reviewed 1 December 2011

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel and enjoyed it. The rooms were small but adequate and very clean. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was quite good. The stairs are a bit daunting, if you have heavy luggage ask for a room on a lower floor. Also a back room rather than a front one, as some noise from the street can be heard thru the single pane windows. The location is great, you can walk to Victoria St and Westminster etc. Pimlico is a lovely area, my choice for any stay in London!

Room Tip: Get a room at the back!

We liked this hotel, it had a good price (110pounds per night, 1 double room with ensuite bathroom), and a good location (few minutes from Pimlico tube station on Victoria line).
Positive: the room was pretty new, nice victorian style, good size bathroom (especially the shower), the staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fine (continental, no eggs). Free WI-FI but only up to the second floor.
Negative: we were on the 4th floor, so a lot of narrow and steep stairs. No safe in the room and no chain lock on the door, but we could leave the passports in the safe at the reception (free). Our room was facing Belgrave road and it was quite noisy, although there is not much traffic on the road... we could also hear a lot of noise when people were walking around or using the bathrooms... quite annoying during the night. Our double bed was pretty small.
We were asked to pay for our whole stay as soon as we arrived, I found it a bit odd.
Overall we liked the hotel and we would suggest it to friends, given they do not mind the noise and the stairs.

We had a good stay for the weekend, three nights in November 2011. We had a single room and a double room. The room was nice and cleen, even the very very small room was perfect for our purposes, the management had really warned us about this room because of the size, so we expected the worst. No need for that, it was ok. Very close to Pimlico underground station. Nice and friendly staff and good breakfast. If we are coming back to London, this will be our first choice.

Melbourne House Hotel is our prefered choice of hotel in London. Very central, within walking distance of Victoria coach station, (handy for Stansted).Bus 24 outside the door more or less, Pimlico underground a couple of minutes walk. Large Sainsbury's and a Tesco Metro up the road, Cafes , pubs and restautrants just round the corner.Very clean hotel, seems to be recently refurbished, Large, spotless shower in our on-suite bathroom.
Ok breakfast included in the reasonable price. Friendly ,curteous staff.

This was our 2nd stay in this hotel which is spotlessly clean, in a convenient position near restaurants, pubs, and walks down by the river and Parks. The room had an excellent shower, comfortable bed and the staff are helpful and pleasant. We will stay there again.

I will start off by saying that overall I would recommend this hotel despite the negatives. The location is fantastic, a very close walk to Pimlico Underground station, and very close to central London. Also it is a relatively quiet and safe residential neighborhood.
Breakfast is included in the room price and includes coffee, tea, toast, fruit, cereal, yogurt, muffins, and cold cuts. It is only served from 7:30-8:45 AM, so you do need to always get up fairly early to get it. The front desk is only staffed from 6:30 am-midnight, but your room key also opens the front door so you can get back late and still get in.
They don't have do not disturb signs for the rooms, so every morning around 9:30-9:40 am even when we were clearly still in the room, housekeeping would knock on our door and want to clean the room. They were willing to come back later when we asked, but it still seemed a bit weird. During our stay they were having a problem with their phones such that you couldn't get an outside line without having to ask the front desk to open it up for you and then could only use it for a short time and that was a big inconvenience during our trip. Supposedly this is a temporary problem but it doesn't sound like they have any idea of when it will be fixed.
There is no lift so I wouldn't stay there if you don't feel you could carry your suitcase up as many as 8 flights of stairs. There is wireless internet which worked very well on the 2nd floor but may not work very well on the upper floors as I saw some people from the upper floors down on the lower floors to use the internet.
The room was small but normal by European standards and was clean and comfortable. The bathroom appeared to have been recently updated and was very nice. The bed was moderately comfortable and only 2 pillows were provided but we got more after asking. There is no air conditioning but we didn't need it in September. The room did have a fan.
I would stay here again if I knew their phones were fixed.

Location, location, location. Close to Victoria station (we walked with luggage to the hotel-15 minutes). Very clean but small rooms. We stayed in 7 (front street with a small balcony) Lot's of street noise but great feel. Back room 3 is a bit smaller than 7 but very quiet. Basic breakfast but lots of it.

Wonderful neighborhood. Schools on the street with kids in uniforms with moms in tow. Check out the great street market (eat from around the world and buy veggies and fruit too) at the Tashbrook market (Warwick Way and Tashbrook). Hop on double decker bus 24 and ride it to Tralflager Square and you will really feel in London. Lots of pubs nearby...the Champion has been here since 1847.
