“Simple but well situated and clean”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 August 2010

This hostel, really well located in the center of London, is simple but will meet your needs if you don't ask for too much. The building is very old but it's very clean. Breakfast is included in a "serve it yourself" format and WiFi is free (note that you can't watch videos). The ambient is good, and the building was in a perfect silence when I stayed there (in august) but I could here the traffic all night as if the road were inside the building. I must say that I had a problem with my booking (I booked a double room instead of a twin room) and the man at the reception was kind and change our room for the same price. Anyway, it was cheap, well located and clean, so I would suggest it to any young person not wantint to expend more money.

And I thought the previous hostel was average...

THIS PLACE WAS DISGUSTING!

I think they knew I got a crappy room hence why I only got one roommate for two nights and nobody on the last night (so essentially a single room for a 4 bed price). It really wasn't worth it though, I'd prefer a clean room full of people!!

Staff: no complaints.
Breakfast: various types of sweet cereal, some juices and flavoured milk, one type of seeded bread, lots of condiments, one type of pastry (this all varies by each day).
Kitchen: very very small, people don't wash their plates often, and I HAD FOOD STOLEN FROM THE FRIDGE!!! Not sure if down to malicious thieves or stupid girls who asked 'which food in fridge is communal?' AFTER THE FACT... also had face washer go missing, so that shows standard of respect and type of people who stay here.
Communal area: only had bean bags to sit on, lots of info, not that great atmosphere. Got free alcoholic drink on arrival which is useless to me. What free bbq? Free drinks during the day but office is not always open at the times it states (which means you can't access a thing inside it... inc drinks, breakfast goods, brochures)

Room: TOTALLY DISGUSTING.
Good - Free smallish locker in room, mattress had no springs to dig into back (good thing because it sagged so much it had a mini crater in the middle), had some hangers and hooks in cupboard.
Bad - No curtain on window, window didn't shut so on main road therefore HEAPS of noise right past 1am inc drunks and trucks, sink was pretty much blocked so it wasn't clean and it smelt, floor hadn't been swept let alone mopped in ages so was covered in litter and dirt, underneath beds hadn't been cleaned in yonks and the black blanket hadn't been washed in ages so you can see random strangers' hair on it (good thing it was so stinking hot you didn't need a blanket.. oh wait no cooling available in room might count as a bad too).

Showers/toilets: cleaned regularly but be warned that only the shower cubicles and the toilets have any doors... unless you change in the tiny tiny wet shower cubicles, you have to change in the corridor space where EVERYONE using the bathroom walks through! Sorry to anyone I walked in on/flashed!! Cubicle so small, I'm barely 5 feet and I banged limbs on all four walls. Only one cubicle had hooks or shower caddy.

I will NOT be coming back here and I would not recommend it for the world.

  • Liked — Location was excellent, bit touristy but lots of services and District Line is fine.
  • Disliked — The cleanliness of the room had a lot to be desired.

Pretty much across the road from the Tube Station and on the Picadilly line so was a great place to stay on route to or from Heathrow! Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Bathrooms and rooms were clean. Close to restaurants and supermarkets as well. Breakfast is included and was a welcoming laid back affair.

Would definitely stay again!

Very easy to find, literally over the road from the tube station. Really nice staff, and the rooms were basic but clean and quiet, with a locker for security.

I had a great stay. Clean friendly and not overcrowded. Got a free beer as well! It's a real old school backpackers hostel and the people staying were great too.
