“Great little hotel”

LOCATION - Awesome We took the underground direct from Heathrow to South Kensington and walked 3 1/2 blocks to The Gallery. Within easy walking distance are a variety of restaurants and pubs, a grocery store with prepared sandwiches, bottled water & wine, a launderette, a bank with an inside ATM and some of the major museums where you can catch a tour bus. Herrods & Hyde Park are a bit farther to walk. Grab a sandwich & drink at Herrods and have lunch in Hyde Park! We always felt safe walking around.

ROOM - lovely, think cruise ship cabin size. Not enough hangers, but housekeeping brought us some more. Bathroom was always clean. Getting in and out of the high tub was tricky for us 60+ & not so sure about the mirror wall in the shower.

STAFF - most were terrific. They gave us recommendations on places to eat and made reservations for tours. Tim was very helpful in answering my questions by email before we arrived. One girl at the desk was clueless.

BREAKFAST - Continental breakfast was included in our room rate which was 3 types of cereal, yogurt, breads & rolls with butter and jam, cheese & ham, canned pears, peaches & pineapple, tea, coffee and juices. For 5 pounds extra we got and "English Breakfast" of 2 eggs any style, one thick sausage link, Canadian-type bacon, half grilled tomato, mushrooms, baked beans and toast. Breakfast staff was not very attentive, but I'd rather that than someone hovering.

Only bad thing is that we did not get a message that a cousin left for us inviting us to dinner at her place. We saw a light blink on the phone, but could not retrieve the message. The staff seemed clueless and could not help us. It was so frustrating. The manager said he would get his IT person to look into it, but we had missed the dinner.

Location: Ideal as I was attending a function at the Natural History Museum
Staff: Helpful and friendly
Bedroom: small but adequate, bathroom a little worn but clean, bed very comfy
Travel: South Kensington Tube station 3 or 4 minutes walk away
Price: £80 for single night room only, good value
Food: Breakfast seemed a little expensive so did not eat here

We stayed at the Gallery Hotel on Wednesday the 15th of February as we were seeing a show at the Royal Albert Hall. The motel is in a great location to where we needed to be and was decorated really nicely. We were a little let down with a couple of things- we checked in at the desk no problem but when we got the tiny lift to out room on the fourth floor there was still a cleaner vacuuming our room- it was 1:30pm at this time and check in was apparently from 1pm onwards. We eventually got into our room and tried to phone reception for an iron- but the phone didn't work. My fiance went to reception to ask for an iron and the girl working there said she would 'send someone from the kitchen'?? He went away not sure whether she had understood him or not. We did get the iron but felt that the workers should have had better English skills. Our toilet flush also didn't work properly and the TV was very old and had limited channels.
On the plus side the decoration of the room was lovely, the shower was nice and powerful and the bed was comfortable- for me anyway. It was a very soft mattress and my fiance woke up with a sore back as he had slept on his stomach.
Overall we were generally happy as we had a good time in London but would only stay in the motel again if we had to be in the particular area and couldn't find anything cheaper. The room was £90 on laterooms but at the motel we saw a sign advertising double rooms for £188 per night- very expensive for what you get!

I have just booked for a second stay here. It's location - 3 minutes walk to South Kensington tube, on a relatively quiet road between Cromwell Road and Harrington Gardens, with taxis easily flagged down on either, the Natural History Museum etc within 100 yards, and plenty of places to eat nearby - is perfect for me.

It's interior won't be to everyone's taste - full-on William Morris/Arts and Crafts - but I loved it. It has character which is so lacking in so many hotels these days. Service was a little slow and there was the occasional Fawlty Towers moment. But it was clean and felt warm, welcoming, homely and timeless. Breakfast was pleasant and more than adequate. A lovely retreat from all the bustle of London.

Room Tip: I asked for a quiet room and was put at the top overlooking a quiet mews round the back - no traffic...

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The location was excellent for us as we wanted to visit the Science Museum, The Natural History Museum and the A&A. The staff were friendly and efficient and the room was clean.

On the negative side the room was small and far too hot. As a result we slept with the window open (in January) but this meant we were woken early by street noise. We booked to stay bed and breakfast but it turned out that if you wanted the full English breakfast a supplement of £5 was required. We had not realised this.

However the price, through Asda Travel, was very reasonable and for a short stay we were happy. We would stay at this hotel again.

I fully endorse the experience expressed by Pancakes 25. The breakfast staff were hardly to be seen, and did not check on guests arriving. On the two mornings I was there I had to call attention to my requirement for Tea & Toast by seeking out the waiter in the kitchen. A repeat order for extra toast was overlooked...'I asked my colleague to do it as I was doing something else!' The rest of the staff were fine, but the hotel decor is very worn and "tired"

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quiet.

have now stayed here 3 or 4 times. 1st time, staff good, room good, good value for money as there was a deal on laterooms around £80.
The last time I stayed - 1st Nov - had to pay £120 per room per night, and I have to say this time felt that the room was not worth that amount.
my room was small, but hey.... was only sleeping there. the shower was pants! No water pressure etc, and the bathroom in general was a little shabby.
staff were still excellent though.
I have to say I would now think twice about staying. as I say, at around £80 per night.... is good value for the location. At over £100.....uuummmm...... not so sure.
