We waited a long time to get a table in the evening (we thought it might be quiet!) but it was worth it. We had lobster thermidor and a grilled haddock and both were delicious. Chips and salad accompaniments were great. Nice cold bottle of Picpoul wine and a pint went down well. The ladies provided very friendly service and work hard, but there was a very long wait for the food. I guess if we had had starters we would not have noticed that so much. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the food very much when it arrived. Have visited a few times before but usually at lunchtimes and just had standard fried fish and chips so this was a new experience for us, having an evening meal and something a bit different.

It's the first time that we've visited since the fire and it was just as good and nice to see lots of the same waiting staff.
Small cod & chips is plenty big enough for us - crisp batter, white fish and crispy chips.
Expensive yes - but worth it. It's always out 1st choice whenever we are in Whitby.

So this review probably won't stand out against all the 5* reviews but we were disappointed during our visit. I would give it a 3.5 if I could but it doesn't quite warrant a 4*.

We got a small and regular cod and chips and the portions were good. The fish was chunky and obviously of good quality but lacking any flavour at all. The batter was completely bland and a bit soggy underneath so our fish and chips didn't taste very fish & chip like. Very disappointing when you're looking forward to some quality fish and chips. Wouldn't believe they were fried in beef dripping.

The chips were fried well, the mushy peas and curry sauce were done very well. The tea was loose leaf. I can't fault the service.

Seating was plentiful but there was a queue so if you really want to try this cafe out, you should book. But I'm certain there's better fish and chips for the price in Whitby.

Fish and chips ok. A good portion of fish but the batter was soggy on one side. Several of the chips were bits i.e.from the bottom of the barrel.Friendly atmosphere.
There are better value for money fish & chip shops in Whitby ( & still good quality)

We ate here whilst on holiday in the area in the week in Aug. We got there at around 11.50am and was already busy but we were lucky and was shown to a table upstairs with view over harbour which was good.

Service was good from start to finish. Orders taken and we did not wait long for food . Cod & Chips was good Plaice was huge and battered sassage and chips huge as you get two battered sassages.

There is lots of hype about how good this place is and is a must. For me the food was good but no better than other fish and chips I have had and the que was in the street when we left and stayed like this all afternoon not sure it would be worth the wait I am sure other fish and chips in Whitby just as good .
