Description: Cranberry Swamp is a cool stylish licensed restaurant located at 24 Skinner Street, Whitby. We specialise in gluten-free food but do offer a choice of bread for those of you who love your toast! Gluten-free does not mean Fun-free! If anything the flavours & textures of our meals are enhanced by the richer, more wholesome and varied ingredients used. (We're open 7 days a week from 8am to about 4.00pm-ish). We have a range of delicious and alternative breakfasts as an antidote to the 'Full English.' i.e. Avocado & Bacon on toast, beautiful porridge and gorgeous House Kedgeree and, the by now famous, Mex Eggs. There are also a wide range of light meals served throughout the day including vegetarian options, daily specials, and a cake counter stocked with tasty delights.

Sometimes the first choice isn't always the best and in the case of the Cranberry Swamp, this was true. We had gone elsewhere and when we were ignored for 10 minutes up and left, straight into the very inviting Cranberry Swamp.
The cafe is very homely and quirky in design, very welcoming indeed. The cafe was very full which is always a good sign, so we ended up on a relaxing sofa area.

Menus were on the table and full of things to tempt every taste, particularly those with a gluten problem as the Cranberry Swamp is all gluten free... Even though, we weren't looking for anywhere specialising in food allergies, it is good to know for the future.
We read the menus and decided upon an eggs royale, typical eggs, bacon, hollandaise and English muffins (gluten free of course) and a baguette. The baguette was toasted, spread with sun dried tomato, topped with caramelised onion, roasted veg and goats cheese. We ordered a side of sweet potato chips with ali oli dip as well. The waitress was very efficient and took our order after a brief pause to choose. We ordered drinks in the format of Greens gluten free Pilsner lager.
After a brief wait, we had our food and it was delicious too. The eggs royale were perfectly cooked and soft yolks too. The baguette was very delicious and extremely tasty, definitely one for a hungry traveller.
The sweet Potato chips were well cooked, nice and soft with an excellent dip of Ali oli, all in all all an excellent impromptu lunch.
Beers were very tasty too... Price was £22.50 for 2, but we both left very full and will definitely be back.

My extended family and I found Cranberry Swamp as it was close to where we stayed in Whitby recently. Although by day it is a cafe we noticed that on a Friday and Saturday evening it is open for Mexican food so we decided to give it a try. It turned out to be a great decision. The food was fantastic with something for everyone including the children. Everything was prepared, cooked and presented to a good standard and enjoyed by us all.
The café has a nice relaxed informal atmosphere and the service was great from the young staff. Well worth a visit.

It's hard to find a restaurant/cafe where you're not made to look like a weirdo when asking for gluten free. This was an excellent find. There's nothing more satisfying to a coeliac/gluten intolerant person than being able to choose from cakes that are not pre packed and the size of a childs snack. The produce, service and atmosphere were great. Well done. Keep up the good work

Our church group visited here for lunch during our trip to Whitby. It's that rare place that can cater for the person who can't have gluten, the person who can't have dairy, and the person who can have both, but prefers never to eat any meal without meat. The food was great quality, good portion sizes and good value. The elderflower cordial was especially nice. Recommended.
