My 4 year old loves to dig and learn about fossils, etc, but this place was a touch over his head. Better for the middle school crowd.

Just back from the Residents' Festival and wanted to say thank-you to the staff- especially Sarah. My nine year old son and I went in at 4.00pm on a Sunday and were the only ones on the last tour. Sarah was, nonetheless, enthusiastic and full of information. We both learnt lots and really enjoyed the archaeological experience. My son has got home and been looking up 'how to be an archaeologist!'

We spent Christmas near York and took the grandchildren to The Dig and it was a really great experience for them and us. The staff were so informative and so engaging with our 9 & 7 year old grandsons. It was a complete hands on experience, which kept their attention for the full hour and we could have stayed longer. We will try and take our other grandchildren next time we are in York.

This is a small but interesting insight of the lives of people in previous times. The day we visited was also the day of school visits. There are some activities set up for children and our 2 year old grandson had as much fun digging and playing with the activities as did the school children. It is one to add to your list if you have time to visit.

If your children like a 'hands-on' experience, this archaeological wonderland is just for them (and adults too). They will not forget the experience.
