The Hilton Hotel York is an excellent choice for location, quality and service. Sited about 300 metres away from Clifford's Tower (the keep of York Castle, with this as the view from the dining room) you immediately feel in the heart of wonderful medieval York. The decor, room furnishing and courtesy of the staff are all first rate and breakfast surpasses the Yorkshire reputation for filling you up for the rest of the day! The quality of the both the traditional English and the continental breakfasts left nothing to be desired. We were more than happy with the quality of both our room and the bathroom.
Parking was fairly expensive but on site and under cover. York is a compact city and everything is within very easy walking distance of the hotel.
Despite being in the city the hotel was very quiet and restful. My only criticism was the lack of air conditioning. Although the weather was below freezing and we turned off the the heating in the room it was too warm overnight and would benefit from better temperature control.

It was nice with friendly staff but the bathroom was very small and outdated which made it disappointing. The tv was set at a volume which made it inaudible

Well located within easy walk of all city attractions and train station. Room dated, bog standard decor and in desparate need of a makeover. Perfectly clean and staff very obliging. Arrived late at night, mid-week and charming receptionist did me a great deal to include parking. At Travelodge rates it is just fine, at advertised rates I would avoid as doesnt represent value. Car parking rates exorbitant and it really should not be necessary to charge for Wifi in this day and age.

Room Tip: View over Cliffords tower has to be good.

I have stayed at the Hilton York on a number of occasions over the past few months.

The hotel is very well located for a visit to the city, while being extremely easy to access by road. The main shopping centre is no more than a 5-10 minute walk away, as is the world renowned Minster.

The hotel rooms are well appointed and come complete with flat screen TV, desk area, hair dryer, ironing board (c/w iron) and tea & coffee making facilities. The bathroom while a little small, was functional and came with the usual toiletries that you find in most Hiltons.

The hotel restaurant is pleasant, with views of Clifford's Tower and the service is always friendly. The dinner menu is varied, if a little expensive for the size of portion. Breakfast is served in the same restraint as dinner, and is very good in terms of value and quality.

Note: If you are a Hilton Honors member let the hotel known on booking as you with them be offered a 3 course dinner, from a reduced menu at a cost of £20. Alternatively, you can select from the full menu by paying a supplement for some items.

There is an underground carpark that can be used, however be warned the cost of an overnight stay will set you back £17. There is a public carpark opposite the hotel that is cheaper to use, however you will need to get up early to renew your parking ticket as the overnight time period appears to finish at 8am.
