The exterior of this house is indeed very fine, but it gives you little impression of the wonders inside. The plasterwork of the ceilings is extraordinary and wonderful, with the deeply coffered celing in the drawing room a highlight. And Noel Terry's collection of 18c furniture is wonderful too. The knowledgeable guides are very good too: they don't obtrude, but they know their stuff

We are members of HHA so our visit was free. Lovely Georgian house in the middle of York. So quiet and relaxing after the busy city. Guides very informative highly recommend.

What a gorgeous Georgian house! Beautiful furniture and furnishings, it's so interesting. The friendly and extremely knowledgeable guides bring it all to life and make this place a must when visiting York. We came across it almost by accident and were delighted we did.

If you love visiting old houses, you’ll love this one. Well decorated/restored rooms and the guides had lots of little stories and facts to share. Not so much fun for kids, but great for adults.

We visited the house this week during a short family break. We visit York at least once a year for a few nights stay. We have visited most attractions during previous visits. We passed the house and decided to go in, the party consisted of 3 including an 8 year old. The entrance fee was £18 in total and we were in the house for 10 minutes! Not value for money in the slightest. Whilst the house is charming, none of the furniture is from the 13 year period of the Fairfax’s stay at the property. Having visited various museum’s, stately homes etc this is by far the least impressive of all. Total was of money.

Very well restored and presented, nicely knowledgeable staff. Beautifully furnished, good collection of period furniture and clocks all in working order. Good choice of gifts, cards etc.

Very well done Georgina townhouse. The furnishings are not the original - the very well informed volunteer guides will explain the story if you ask, but they have done a great job of restoring and recreating what it would have looked like. Spend the time to look at the details and talk to the guides, you will learn a lot.
I take particular pride in being only the second person in several years to find the Bowdlerized Shakespear in the library. :-)

A group of friends and I went to visit this

We asked if we could do the kids’ mouse trail which involves a booklet for drawing pictures, counting clocks etc and a separate sheet for solving a code based crime

The very friendly, interesting and knowledgeable volunteers in each room were amused that we were doing the kids’ trail but it made it really easy for them to talk to us, and meant we paid a lot more attention and found out a lot more than we probably would have done otherwise

My visually impaired friend struggled with the steps, but we looked after her - and there aren’t any toilets (but the ones in fenwicks aren’t far away) but overall we were all really impressed with how much the volunteers cared about the collection and how interesting they made it

It doesn't take long to tour this restored Georgian home, but it was very enjoyable. Volunteer docents are in each room and more than happy to share the history of the house. The entry fee was also a very reasonable £7.50.
