Booked in to this hotel, mainly as I needed somewhere close to the railway station, and close to the town. Never having been to the area before, I was totally In the dark about hotels, but struck it lucky with The Plough, being no more than 10 mins walk from the station. Booking in was simplicity itself, and the receptionist couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. The room I was given was on the top floor, perfectly adequate for a single room with all the normal amenities you would expect. The room was well stocked with tea/coffee etc, the TV gave an excellent picture etc and the shower/toilet was clean and tidy. The hotel operates a decent sized bar area, open to non-residents also, but it seemed quiet during my stay, and noise was not an issue for me. The hotel is very close to the town centre where there are numerous dining options and is on a number of bus routes for anyone needing to travel. The hotel has a large carpark at the side and rear, and serves a free buffet breakfast for all its residents. The choice and variety of options is excellent, and the quality of the food I experienced was superb. If I'm honest and trying to find negatives, I suppose it could be argued that a refurb/decoration etc wouldn't go amiss in places, but its a large hotel, the building is over 100 years old, and it oozes character and atmosphere. For me, it works perfectly well as it is, and if I find myself in the area again, I would not hesitate to stay here again.
