We were visiting Northampton being my home town to visit friends. Throughout the process with Travelodge was pretty appalling.....the rise of COVID-19 prior to us visiting put us in doubt whether to go, or cancel. Travelodge would not let us cancel without losing our money despite government guidance to avoid high risk areas. So we carried on with our visit.
The hotel rooms were fine, clean, tidy and equipped with things we would need for our stay, one downside was both our room, and my older daughters room smelt of weed when we arrived.
The three nights we stayed due to Covid 19, the rooms were not cleaned, we had to ask for bin bags for our rubbish (which was abit with there being 2 adults and 2 young children) and then take them back to reception once full. If we needed clean towels then we had to ask, the mugs provided for tea/coffee were never replaced in the 3 days we were there so we had to wash them ourselves but they didn’t provide anything to clean them with...pretty much everything we had to ask for if we needed it, but the staff in reception were very accommodating and friendly.
The last thing I am going to mention is the “breakfast on the go”...... what an entire waste of money! £5.25 per box for a small box of cornflakes, a carton of long life milk, a flapjack, a pain au chocolate and a carton of orange juice! When there are 4 people and it costs over £20 a day for breakfast it’s a rip off ( we had to ask at reception for these too!). 3 weeks before our trip we called Travelodge to cancel the add on of these breakfasts once we realised what we would get, this was a optional extra and we weren’t allowed to cancel it despite calling them so far in advance? I find this atrocious..... it was a add on that when we originally booked were under the impression was a full english breakfast which was the reason for booking, so when we found out this wasn’t the case we didn’t want the breakfast boxes, but once you have agreed to anything with Travelodge they hold you in on that booking. The breakfast box contents were quite frankly a waste of money as none of us ate any of them. We ended up going out for breakfast every morning.
I wouldn’t say we won’t be back, but we are certainly looking at other places, ones with a proper breakfast included And one with a better customer service centre helpline. This is more a review on Travelodge as a company rather than that particular hotel.
