This is one of the original lodge style Premier Inns, quite small and with a separate restaurant. The room was perfectly ok, I was lucky to be on the side looking over pretty countryside rather than on the roadside. The website warns that the hotel is close to a busy main road. It means busy and it means close.

I am a great fan of PI but unfortunately this is a joint ownership site and the Whitbread magic stops at the dividing line.

Fodder is provided by a vile Hungry Horse establishment next door, a garish American style diner apparently completely focussed on deepening the country's obesity crisis, with a crass menu of the unhealthiest possible boasting about what is big.

You have to order at the bar, so every time you want something you have to get up and take your turn with the local drinkers waiting for the sole staff member in evidence to serve you. Hopeless if, as I was, you are on business on your own. The food was basic, luke warm and poor, and the people on the next table were demanding refunds.

Breakfast not much better. No PI buffet here. You wait to have your order taken, and you wait to have it brought to you. Great when you are trying to get to a meeting. And they are good at burning bacon.

PI need to resolve the ownership at sites like this, or get out. The attitude of "its not us mate and its not our problem" is just not on.

Would I come again? Of course not. And I'll be pretty careful about the type of Premier Inn that I am booking in the future.

Room Tip: Find somewhere else with a decent restaurant

WhitbreadHotels, Premier Inn Team at Premier Inn Northampton Bedford Rd/A428 Hotel, responded to this reviewResponded May 25, 2017

Hi Ian,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at our Northampton Bedford Rd/A428 Hotel.

I'm really sorry to hear that your stay wasn't great due to your experience when dining for dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. It's disappointing that you found your meal basic and only luke warm as was the breakfast. We can assure you that we have passed on your feedback regarding this. However, if you would like to take this further please do contact the restaurant management team of Fayre & Square directly at http://www.fayre-square.com/about/contact/ and they will be able to look into this further for you.

My sincere apologies again for any inconvenience caused and I do hope that your next stay with Premier Inn is back to the standards you would expect from us.

Kind regards,
James

Not obviously reflective of the TV adverts, and you can get similar facilities in other hotel chains for about half the price.
Windows didn't close properly and bathroom lighting was inadequate.
Overall I was disappointed, and had naively been tempted into again trying Premier Inn as a result of their advertising.

Stayed at this hotel on Easter Saturday as we were attending a wedding locally. The staff were extremely friendly, from the very helpful lady on reception (Kat) through to the head housekeeper (Khaoula). The room was spotless and to top it all, we were left a lovely Easter gift of eggs and chocolate bars. In all, a very pleasant stay.
