Very nice bed and breakfast hotel. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful at all times. Room was nicely furnished and decorated, including a large screen TV. Great breakfast. There are places to eat in Summertime which is a short walk towards Oxford city - I recommend Joe's bar and grill. I'll be staying here again.

We stayed at this hotel as a group of four. I booked the small rooms which were good value for money and adequate in size. The location was great with a park and ride at the end of the road and buses just across from the hotel for travelling into Oxford. The shopping centre at Summertown is walkable and has a range of shops, cafes and bars. The car park at the hotel was fine with plenty of space. The welcome was great and continued throughout our stay. The staff were brilliant, providing an ice bucket and glasses and excellent service at breakfast. The garden was lovely and there was comfortable seating in several areas including the foyer and the dining room. The breakfast was tasty with plenty of choice and the hot breakfast items were great. Would highly recommend.

1 week stay for leisure. 1 adult, 1 girl aged 6.

Overview...Not a bad stay. We had no major issues and passed a pleasant enough vacation while staying here...BUT...it is not a 4 star property and lacks the services and amenities one might expect from a stay at a 4 star property. While I wouldn't complain if I had to stay at the Remont again, it would rank at the bottom on the list of 4 star properties I've stayed at and perhaps only in the top 75% of 3 star properties I've stayed at. While I would stay here again in the future if need be, I would most likely give preference to other properties in the Oxford area.

Detailed Review….

To be honest, in a competition with other 4 star hotels this property would rank far below average. Had they claimed to be a 3 star, I would have perhaps given them 4 circles but feel as if I'm being generous in giving 3 circles when comparing this property to other 4 star properties. We had a pleasant enough stay but that's really only one factor in judging a property overall.

Service and amenities….There really aren't any unless you count the backyard terrace or the "lobby". The front desk has opening and closing hours. No food or drinks beyond breakfast. No ice machine. No concierge. you might see a housekeeper or a receptionist, but in my week there it was rare to find hotel staff ready and available to serve guests. versus guests having to ring a doorbell to summon staff from the back office. All acceptable for 2-3 star properties but hardly signs of a 4 star property.

Rooms… As star standards go up, so does available space in guest rooms. Not here. We had a couple beds, and a single IKEA looking wardrobe which took up most of the space. No mini-bar. Smallish TV hung on the wall. Small table next to the window. No in-room decoration whatsoever (no wall space to do so). Water heater with instant freeze dried coffee and a couple packages of cookies were laid out on a ledge that ran along the wall (just stayed at a 3 star that had Keurig machines in the rooms).

Restroom…. Nothing special here. Smallish standup shower, cracked single sink, and a toilet under the roof angle. Nothing screaming 4 star at all, and less space and luxury than I've had in 3 star properties. You enter and the sink is in front of you, 1 step to the right is the shower, 1 step to the left is the toilet.

View….In one room I had a view of the parking lot, in the other room I had a view of the garbage bin area for the apartment complex across the street.

Housekeeping… Did a decent enough job but was quite stingy with towels and soap (to the point that I broke out my travel kit soap). Had a couple days where dirty towels were taken from the floor and hung up (which is completely unacceptable).

Breakfast...again…good enough that Ii didn't leave hungry but still lacking the variety one expects to find in higher classed properties. In fact, I have recently stayed at 3 star Holiday inn Express and Comfort inn and both had breakfasts that were far superior to what was offered at Remont.

Staff...All interactions I had with hotel staff were pleasant enough.

Location...Not far from Oxford...But not particularly close either. For most people it will require a bus ride or a good half an hour walk to get to Oxford. I would put location as neutral. Not quite centrally located for those that are spending their time in Oxford itself, but that's not particularly a bad thing depending on point of view. There are several restaurants and grocery stores not far in another little town nearby but that's still a 7-10 minute walk.

Ice...Yes...Ice is available...but you have to call the front desk...and of course the front desk closes before most people call it a night...so I ended up buying bags of ice from the grocery store every night just to have a couple cold drinks at the end of my day.

Lobby… Perhaps they consider the lobby as part of being 4 star? It's a few chairs, a table, and a computer. Not particularly a place you'd go to escape your room or have a coffee (not that coffee service is available).

Backyard terrace….About the only place on the property a guest might want to hang out at. It's nice. About 6 tables with chairs and umbrellas. sunny enough location. I wouldn't go so far as to say that they had a manicured garden area but it was well enough kept. There is a small yard area that the kids can run around and play a bit (but no kid specific amenities in the yard).

"Freebies"...There is a bowl of apples upon entering the hotel and bottled water is provided in-room (though again, just sitting out at room temperature in the summer).

Conclusion….hit or miss...nice enough stay with no issues just don't go in expecting a 4 star hotel and the amenities that usually come with a 4 star property. I myself find the main negatives to be that the rooms are basic/small & the breakfast sorely lacking Common areas are ok but nothing special. Beyond a small terrace, small lobby, and small breakfast room, there are no amenities. There is no service beyond breakfast and an on-call receptionist.

This was our fourth visit to this hotel, an ideal place to stay for pleasure or business when visiting Oxford city. Friendly and clean, there is also plenty of parking spaces. Buses run up and down the Banbury road into the city centre on a frequent basis day and night. A 10 minute bus ride takes you into the heart of the colleges, museums, galleries, restaurants and shops. But a 10 minute walk will take you into Summertown where there are any number of bars, restaurants and cafes. The hotel itself is very clean and efficient, with rooms although small are well appointed with everything you need for a short stay. The staff are cheerfully friendly; nothing is too much trouble. The buffet breakfast is well stocked and freshly cooked with attentive staff on hand to refill your coffee cup.

Room tip: Quieter rooms at the back
