We were a group of around 20 runners stopping in for pints, crisps and a couple of people for food on the way back from a run. It was also one lady's birthday. It was quiz night and the pub was fairly busy but we sat out of the way and we were busy drinking and chatting and being very well behaved.

I'm not sure why the staff felt it needed to be so rude to us. When we asked if we could order food still we were very abruptly told that "you have four minutes" and later in the evening, when the birthday lady was sharing some cake which was brought for her as a surprise, a member of staff was extremely rude and asked if we had rung ahead to be been given permission to eat it there. I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous and all 20 of us for sure won't be stopping in at the Norfolk arms to spend our money again. We must have spent a couple of hundred pounds last night but we won't be back, there are runner friendly pubs very nearby who are always welcoming to us.

The beers are good but we were really upset to be treated so rudely.

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We appreciate your custom and it's disappointing to hear that you did not enjoy your visit to The Norfolk Arms and that you felt the staff were rude.

I have now spoken to the duty manager who was working on the evening of your visit as it is only fair that we hear both sides of the story.

We can only apologise that you felt one or more members of our team were rude to you. The duty manager who worked on that particular evening does not believe she was rude, and politely explained to you (or members of your party) that food service finishes at 9:00pm.
We are proud of the helpful and friendly reputation our team have earned. Online reviews are generally very complimentary towards the attitude of our staff. We would never condone any of our staff being rude to our guests, and we are sorry you felt this was the case.

Regarding the birthday cake: we are generally happy for our guests to bring a birthday cake and enjoy it, and we will happily provide plates and napkins. We would have been willing to do the same for you, had any of your party asked if we minded you consuming your own food on the premises.

We have also been made aware that several members of your party had brought other food, including sandwiches into the pub and were eating it at the tables. This is not permitted and we fully support our staff for making you aware of this. We are a business which makes a large percentage of its income from selling food – I’m sure you can appreciate that if we encourage customers to bring their own, our business will suffer considerably.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. If you would like to discuss the matter further please don’t hesitate to contact us.

I just wanted to say thanks again to all the team at the Norfolk arms, for making our wedding day so special.
You went out of your way to ensure we were totally satisfied and were a massive help in all the planning. All of the guests have commented on how great the venue (rooms) food and service was during the day.

You certainly delivered on all of your promises and delivered so much more!!!

Thanks again

Good location - quieter around the side if you are sitting outside as the cross roads at the front does get busy. Had club sandwiches which were massive and full of chicken / salad.
Pub does look like it needs some TLC - toilets weren't very clean, wooden tables worn / cracked, condiments need a clean etc
But if you fancy a drive out for a drink and view it's great.

We stayed for two nights for a friend's birthday. Comfy clean room. Good food. Reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Beautiful location. Close to good walks such as Stanage Edge and cycle routes. Close to the pretty village of Haversage. Would recommend.
