Owner description: The world's first iron bridge is located in Ironbridge, the cradle of the Industrial Revolution.

The village is beautiful and the setting for the bridge is spectacular. Even though the bridge is covered, we were able to see bits of the bridge, stripped right back to its bare bones where the workers were refitting. Also worth a short drive to see the unusual and many might sat inappropriate positioning of the power station less than a mile down the road. 4 old cooling towers creating an usual industrial backdrop to the otherwise green and pleasant land.

Unfortunately this attraction is undergoing a £3.5 refit and inspection so was covered with protective skin, so not able to appreciate, pity will have to try next year.

We were having a short stopover in nearby Telford and couldn't resist making a slight detour to visit the Iron Bridge. I did know about the renovations so it wasn't too disappointing to see all the scaffolding; it was a bit like realising that a parent or grandparent isn't getting any younger and is starting to show their age!

Whilst it might not be quite a scenic as it usually is, it is still possible to walk across the bridge and admire the views in both directions. The small but very informative Toll House museum remains open and the town itself is very picturesque so definitely still worth a visit.

We were in the local area and decided to come and have a look at the Iron bridge - it's currently covered in scaffolding and apparently will be for the next 18 months / 2 years while it is refurbished so we're glad we didn't make a special trip to visit.

The village is very pretty with some lovely shops, cafes and bars and it's a lovely place to visit - the bridge is very pretty when you can see it and has a really interesting history behind it. The Tollhouse museum is only small but is free and gives you lots of information about the bridge.

We will be returning when the bridge refurbishment is completed and plan to spend the weekend here exploring all that it has to offer.

The day we arrived to view the bridge was the day after scaffolding was constructed to rescue the bridge. We were still able to view the bridge and get a good view of its impressive arch across the river. It is very difficult to park in Ironbridge and the roads are very narrow and winding.
