My boyfriend and I decided we needed a night or two away from the little people and chose Bath. After trawling through loads of overpriced impersonal hotels and B&Bs we saw Grove Lodge advertised, read the reviews and decided to book.
We weren't disappointed. From the wonderful friendly welcome by the owners Mary & Giovanni - touches like home made biscotti and home made fudge left in the room, a welcome glass of fizz when we arrived and then staying in a beautiful room with such attention to detail was just perfect.
We stayed in the Georgian Suite. High ceilings, original fireplaces and beautiful original Georgian shutters at the windows. With a separate living area to the bedroom and a huge bathroom with roll top bath and walk in shower we were spoilt for space. Breakfast served on a silver tray in your room when requested was a real treat when wanting to have a lazy morning.
A beautiful building, stunning room and wonderful hosts. You couldn't ask for more!

Working in the holiday industry as I do, I travel an awful lot. So, when I arrive somewhere and cannot find a single thing to fault in the decor, facilities or service, that says a lot.

We stayed in the Roman suite with spacious bathroom finished to a high standard with all the amenities: Walk-in power shower, high back tub, great mirrors, perfect lighting and marble floor. The bedroom was frankly huge with decor that married perfectly the old and new and left nothing out: safe, oversized bed with gorgeous quality sheets and pillows (with a menu so we knew what was what), hairdryer, iron, effective blinds over the enormous windows, TV, ample sockets (my ipad comes everywhere!) and adjustable heating/air con. I could go on.....

And remember this is a suite.....so we also had our own private living room with fireplace, stunning furniture (see above re modern and period) and beautiful views. It was here each morning that we enjoyed the superb and ample breakfasts that Mary and Giovanni brought to us. No, the photographs are not dressed, the breakfasts are served on silver trays with crisp linen.

It was our joint birthday weekend and could not have been more special staying in such a stunning property with 2 experienced professional and above all warm and welcoming hosts to look after us. Thank you Giovanni and Mary.

Room tip: I appreciate the privacy the Roman Suite affords as it is at the very top of the building with no one else on that floor

Just perfect. My husband and I had exactly the weekend we wished for thanks to Grove Lodge. If you are looking for a gateway and think details matter (the hosts’ kind offer to pick up from the station, homemade cookies, divine pillows and unique design) then look no further. And when we thought it couldn’t get better... our breakfast arrived... You can tell that Giovanni and Mary are not just great at what they do but they truly love it and enjoy it, so their guests do too.

It’s about 25-30 min walk to the city centre but for us it wasn’t an issue at all (even though it was cold and raining). At the end of the touristy days we looked forward to the walk “home” with gorgeous bath, cookies and bed to die for.

We stayed at Giovanni and Mary’s B&B for the weekend and absolutely loved it. We could fault neither the surroundings nor their hospitality - and the breakfast was delicious too. Would highly recommend it.

We chose this hotel on the basis of its excellent reviews and we certainly weren’t disappointed. Mary and Giovanni were exceptional hosts, really going the extra mile to make our stay comfortable, from collecting our bags from the station on arrival to let us go and explore straight away, to welcoming us later with a homemade birthday cake and glasses of Spumante. The room was spotless, brilliantly equipped and very comfortable - a real treat to have a separate living room to relax in, and in which to enjoy our spectacular breakfast. Yes, it’s a little out of the centre, but the walk into town along the canal was lovely (Mary even provided a special map for this) and taxis were cheap when we couldn’t be bothered to walk. All in all, a very special place - now we just need an excuse to go back again soon.
