Outside it was pouring rain and bone-chilling cold, inside Ivy Cottage no one cared about the weather!!! We were there with our 4 "20-something " children for 3 nights. Ivy Cottage is warm, charming, rustic in feeling but not in function.. The kitchen is well appointed making evenings "in" - playing cards by the fire and eating homemade soup very easy and fun. Good showers and comfy beds with big soft comforters made it a great place for rest and recharging. It is a 15 -20 minute drive
to get to Bath through utterly charming countryside. There is a pub that is walking distance, we found a few quainter ones within a 10 minute drive. Ivy Cottage was better than I thought it could be!!
Only stayed here for a few nights but what a great time we had. If your looking for a private retreat away from it all then this is exactly the place for you. Be warned though, it is very rustic, not unclean by any means, but very well worn shall we say which all adds to the character and feel of the whole place. We stayed here during November and if cozy nights in front of a log fire are what you are after then definitely give this place a good look. There was always someone on hand to answer any questions that we had which was most appreciated.
What a fabulous house in a fabulous location. So cosy and welcoming with everything you need! Loved the fire place, loved the beds, loved the quaint front gate!! Don't ever change a thing!!! Thanks for a fabulous first taste of England!!
Lovely cottage, relaxing and near pubs and lovely food. The mill and the red lion definitely worth a visit. Norton st philip and frome nearby. Linda, the owner was very accommodating and helpful. Would stay there again. Everything there needed for a holiday break.
Cute and pleasent cottage on a small quiet road. Very clean and well looked after. Provided and catered for all our needs. Location was good, only 20 mins away from bath town centre by car. Lovely views and paths about 5/10 mins away from the cottage. Pub right across the road too!
Ivy Cottage was not the ideal rental for my family, but keeping in mind some "house truths", it could be for yours. Among those truths: Ivy Cottage is rural, it is "cabin like" in the sense that it appears to spend many long periods closed and it has the damp smell and spiders associated with long periods of being vacant. Also, with the exception of The Red Lion pub (very good food, by the way), there are few businesses within walking distance.
Ivy Cottage is old, which we found wonderful, well placed for driving to Bath, Stonehenge, Salisbury, and many other great places in south west England and Wales. Linda, the owner was pleasant and responsive, and I know that this could be an excellent value for a group who were aware of Ivy Cottage's nature.
