“excellent b & b”
Reviewed 14 October 2011

I stayed for 3 nights in October, very warmly welcomed by Judith the Manager, and had thought that this was the best B & B I have stayed in for quite a while. Very clean, warm, with lovely view of garden. Breakfast was tasty and well cooked. Fully recommend this as a great place to stay and visit Bath.

Room Tip: Room 1 very quiet as overlooks garden

My partner and I decided to spend a weekend in Bath but didn't want to stay in the city due to the cost of accommodation. After looking on the internet and reading various reviews we decided to stay at Milton House. I had to phone a couple of days before to arrange a check-in time and spoke to Sue who was very helpful. Upon arrival we were greeted by Sue who was exceptionally friendly and very helpful. Sue asked if we had been to Bath before and provided us with a map of Bath city and a walking route to save on parking fees etc. We were then taken to our room and again Sue was helpful in answering our questions. The B&B has a lovely, homely feel about it. Our room was immaculate, good size and the ensuite was spotless and spacious. Clean fresh, fluffy towels were available as was tea, coffee, biscuits etc. We stayed for 3 nights and really did enjoy our stay. We met Geoff the following morning who was very informative on things to do in Bath and places to eat etc. Sadly Geoff and Sue went off for a few days away so we didn't get to see much of them but they left us in the capable hands of Judith who again couldn't do enough for us. Breakfasts were lovely and we couldn't fault them. We would definitely stay at Milton House again and have recommended it to friends and family should they wish to visit Bath.

Room Tip: Our room was facing the main road but even though it was busy it wasn't noisy.

We were greeted by Julie the manager who gave us a very warm welcome. After the inital checking in we were taken to our room (number 2) which was very clean and airy. You can pre book what you would like for breakfast and what time you would like it. Breakfast is cooked fresh and was very tasty. Julie doubles as the waitress for breakfast and was her normal bubbly self. Julie is very knowledgable about the area and gave us some good advice. We tried the Devonshire Arms which is only a short walk from Milton House (less than 5 minutes). It serves pub grub so the menu is limited, not a problem for us. Two steak meals and a bottle of good wine - £20, yes £20. (Wednesday only offer )The second night we ate at the Cafe Rouge i have seen some reviews knocking the staff and quality of food there. Could not fault either on our visit.

The only way to measure Milton house is to ask myself would i go back there? Yes i would and thanks again Julie for welcoming stay.

Minor mourn: the mattress wasn't the most comfy and glad i had ear plugs (traffic noise)

Nobody had mentioned that that the mattress in Room 2 wasn't comfortable, so as soon as we read Millboy's review, we checked it and found that it had indeed gone soft at one side. This hadn't been noticeable when we were making the bed, but was immediately evident when we sat or lay down on it. We apologise to him for his discomfort, as we know that part of the pleasure of a weekend away is a good, restful night's sleep, but we do wish our guests would mention these things to us directly so that we can rectify them!
We can't do much about being close to a main road, although the double glazing does a pretty effective job of blocking out the traffic noise, but we have ordered a new mattress!

Fantasic b&b, attentive service, great breakfast and info on the town. Held our bags for the day in order to make the most of our day and a late train trip back to London. Couldnt have asked for better.

This B&B deserve the good rating. It is very clean and the rooms are lovely, we really enjoy our comfortable stay here. The porridge served during breakfast is delicious.

Sue is very kind and helpful. We had arrived very late around 10pm, Sue gave us immediate advice on where to dine, so we managed to have a very nice Indian dinner nearby. We have left behind our camera charges in the B&B and headed to London. Sue contacted me immediately and arranged the camera charges sent by courier service to our hotel at London, thanks a lot.

Had a lovely stay here - attention to detail was great. Room was really clean and airy and the bathroom was big. Breakfast was delicious and the manager was so kind and sweet and nothing was too much trouble. Good atmosphere too - nice to have music with breakfast! A minor thing - the mattress wasn't the most comfy, and could do with a cover to make it softer? The Indian restaurant around the corner was ok - not amazing but fine. An easy walk to the centre of Bath from Milton House and it is good exercise coming back up the hill! I would recommend this place.

Room Tip: Perhaps get a room at the back of the house away from the main road if you are a light sleeper
