“Excellent, cosy, Somerset get away”

Just returned from a stay here and it is truly worth every penny this niche retreat.

I'm going to state the two points / recommendations that I feel any potential guest should consider first. Firstly be sure to take your time going over the cooker / oven and read the instructions provided, I didn't and embarrassingly had to ask the owners for help. Secondly drivers of bigger vehicles (estates, 4x4's) may wish to look over the location on google streetview as the drive and parking can be tight, but there is ample parking round about.

Other than that there are no discernible negatives. The cottage was very comfy and warm, which was a concern due to the recent weather. The cottage is exceptionally clean and tidy, tastefully decorated, and boast a superb view of the gorge and village, and is placed literally a minutes walk from the local shops and several pubs and restaurants. It is also well placed for visiting further afield locations such as Wells and Glastonbury.

The local people are very friendly, as are Huw and Mary (the owners) and very helpful, without being intrusive. Overall this is a perfect, cosy, little Somerset get away.

“Wonderful homely eco-cottage in a fantastic location”

I visited Gorge View Cottage earlier this year with my girlfriend, as a quiet romantic getaway in the country. We picked this cottage due to its location in the heart of Cheddar, and self catering facilities.

The cottage itself is really nicely designed. It has a clean, homely feel and everything had been thought about, including nice extra details we didn't expect like little natural handmade soaps. Unfortunately it was cold and rainy during our stay (typical British summer!) but it meant we were able to use the wood-burner stove, which was fantastic! A real novelty, which immediately heated the cottage, was easy to operate and kept us warm all night. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped and the bed was very comfy also. It's worth noting that the bathroom is rather small, but nicely designed and catches lots of light from the window so it feels nice and not dingy. The eco-friendly aspects of the cottage were great too- solar panels on the roof, under floor heating etc. It was a novelty to know we were living sustainably during our stay.

It was nice to meet the lovely couple who own the cottage, who were helpful and gave us great local advice on places to go. They had also compiled booklets of useful information which were in the cottage, and there was a large map of the area on the wall which was really handy. We would definitely recommend 'The White Hart', a pub down the road which did great food and had a lovely tradition feel. It was great to have Cheddar right on our doorstep- we spent a long time exploring what the Gorge had to offer, with lots of interesting little shops, tea rooms, and a brilliant crazy-golf course! The cheese factory tour (complete with tasters at the end) and caves are a must. An easy driving distance away, we visited Glastonbury which was a lovely alternative town with some good cafes. I'd also definitely recommend Wells for its quaint little high street market, and the Cathedral.

I was surprised by how many things there were to do in the surrounding area, and we left wishing we had longer to see more! We will definitely be back.
