You don't have to tour the Cathedral to use this lovely cafe. It is upstairs from the gift shop (lift available) and has a lovely menu which changes daily with frash specials. We had a fish chowder which was excellent and came with a superb artisan bread roll. A filling and tasty lunch!
The cafe itself is clean and has stunning views from the windows. The service was prompt and friendly.
I highly recommend this place.

Set upstairs (but with disabled access) in a smart, modern building, profits from this over priced cafe all go to the Cathedral.
We had homemade soup, advertised as 'a meal in a bowl'. It certainly wasn't that, but rather quite a small portion of slightly unusual but not unpleasant soup. We also had a nice enough but cold, cheese scone.
If it were not for the fact it was 'all in a good cause', we would have given it just two stars.

The Cathedral Cafe is a bright airy space. I've been to Wells Cathedral countless times but never made it to the cafe. I popped in the other morning for tea and cake. I was lucky enough to be there on a Wednesday morning when they serve their excellent Cathedral buns. They only serve them once a week I believe. The buns are similar to a Chelsea bun packed full of dried fruit and cinnamon with a vanilla glaze. Simply delicious.

The restaurant used to be in the Cloisters and was excellent. The new building has been very cleverly constructed and has good views. However the food is now average standard commercial fare and prices are not cheap. The Cloisters always used to be very busy but this café was empty at 3pm. Suggest the Cathedral Authorities tender for a new operator.

We have been for coffee and a cake now two weeks running. On the plus side it is clean, plenty of space and interesting views over the cathedral. Everything is reasonable but not outstanding. In the past the cafe was located in the cloisters, an inferior setting, but a superior menu, service and price.
I was very dissapointed to see that on the central table with cutlery, milk and jugs of water they have supplied single use plastic cups. Yes there were glass ones, but these were not by the water and everyone that we watched help themselves to water took the plastic cups. I really would have thought that Wells Cathedral would reject disposable plastic.
