Went for a Sunday evening meal with friends, with the intention of staying on for the music.
Meal and service were good.
But, oh dear, a grotty Public Bar - the only thing missing was the saw dust - stinking of cigarette smoke, as was the corridor to the Bar and toilets.

Went for NYE afternoon sunday lunch. I had turkey hubby had beef, 5 year old had battered fish. Turkey and beef were slices of what appeared to be shop brought precooked. Veg was bland courgettes sweetcorn and mangetoute not really very seasonal. One sprout between 2! Roast potatoes were inedible you couldnt cut them let alone chew them. Then the worse thing, yorkshire pudding had at least a tablespoon of oil in which on cutting spoiled the gravy, i left most my dinner. It wasnt until we'd paid did any waitress ask about meal. I couldnt be bothered to list or respond as the service wasnt great either. Also to add that whilst fresh fish is great it had 3 large bones which for a child is dangerous. We most definately wont return or recommend.

We hadn't been to the Nelson in ages, but what a pleasant surprise. We were shown to our table by a very friendly waitress. We placed our order for drinks & food. My husband (who is a retired butcher) ordered the rump steak, I had the sirloin and our son had the mixed grill. The meals were excellent, the steaks were cooked to perfection, they just melted. They had a good selection of sweets. Overall we praise the Nelson for its service and excellent food. Keep up the good work.
