Visited a couple of weekends ago. It was very busy but we couldn't fault the service. Food was delicious. We'll be back.

Booked our table and were greeted and our drinks order taken and served promptly. We were the only customers in the restaurant at this point. A couple came in who obviously hadn’t booked and are shown to the table behind us. They asked for the dessert menu so that they could decide whether to have a starter or not before placing their order. We waited whilst staff attended to their requests. We then still waited whilst their food order was take ! Even more time went by before the Assistant Manager came to take our order. It was pointed out that we had been left waiting whilst others who had come in after us and had not even booked had been served. Her attitude was unbelievable and made the situation worse. A “sorry it was an oversight” would have sufficed. Due solely to her attitude and excuses that it was because she hadn’t been present any the time, we decided not to eat there but just to finish our drinks. Before we had a chance to take another sip of our drinks a very smug young boy came across and asked us how we would like to pay !!! Horrible experience and will never give them our custom again.

Visited one evening this week for a family meal. The food in general was pretty good and I would eat here again. My main issue with my visit was the poor quality of the balsamic vinegar. We ordered bread and olives as a sharing platter to start, at a cost of £7 I was expecting good quality bread/olive oil/balsamic. The bread was average, the balsamic vinegar was such poor quality, you could probably get 3 litres of it for 99p in a discount store. It was basically balsamic flavoured water, it lacked viscosity to the point where it actually wouldn’t adhere to the bread. Disappointing to say the least. This pub should seriously consider investing in a good quality balsamic. I hope they are not trying to cut costs when ordering in other ingredients too.

We were looking for a traditional Sunday lunch with all the trimmings and that's exactly what we got at The Nelson. Not the cheapest option around but the tasty plateful was well worth the money. We both had the beef which was very tender with lots of tasty veg. The Yorkshire pudding was melt-in-the-mouth. The only problem was we were too full to sample a pudding.

Brother lives nearby and The Nelson is becoming a regular visit. Meals are very good, service as well. Visited just before Xmas on a short notice booking. Place was packed but service was still good. Yesterday quiet Sunday option. Enjoyed it very much. Service with a smile. Meals too awhile but to me that’s a sign of them being properly cooked. Prices reasonable for the quality and variety. Would recommend
