“Heart of Newcastle”
Review of Grainger Town

Grainger Town

Much of Newcastle City Centre is made up by Grainger Town. It has some very beautiful Georgian buildings and boosts loads of businesses and restaurants, from well-known chains to small, little independents. 2 Cinemas are also located in Grainger Town: Cineworld (ex- Empire) at The Gate, and Tyneside Cinema, an indie just south of Northumberland St / Grey's Monument!

As pilgrims we always make our way to this ancient and stunning indoor market. Its ALL here - wonderful food shops particularly fish and meat sections but also superb small clothing shops and little tea/coffees rooms too. Sadly, my own family- owned bookshop has closed. Here you'll also find one of the original Marks & Spencer stall/shops from the 19th century.
Unmissable

Large covered market with lots of different alleys and nice just to wander but stay away from the corner with the toilets it was rather smelly. The original M & S is fun - just selling normal M & S stuff but nice to look at the stand signage, etc. Various shops and food stands at very reasonable prices.

This mall offers you some of the finest shops and cafés but still has that Victorian feel. Just have stop for a moment and look different to all of the features of this mall.

I loved this place, so unusual with a mixture of boutique shops and butchers, fruitmarkets etc. Lots of eataries also. A great little find and definitely worth a visit.
