“Exactly What I Wanted!”
Reviewed February 9, 2015 for a stay in February 2015

I surprised my mum with a two night stay at Braunston Mill Cottage for her 50th birthday. We often have girly weekends away to a Travelodge or Premier Inn but I wanted something special for her big birthday.

After much research, I decided upon Mill Cottage. What a good decision it was. It is only a 25 minute drive from where we live in Coventry so is very convenient. But it feels like we really 'got away'.

After a pretty stressful time, it was just what both of us needed. The cottage itself was spotless, very cosy and well-equipped. Sandie and Simon greeted us when we arrived with a LOVELY welcome. The dining table was set up ready for a meal, including a bottle of wine and box of chocolates. There was also bread, biscuits, cereal, eggs, milk, juice, tea and coffee. And not cheap stuff either.

The small washroom (with shower cubicle) also included shampoo, conditioner and shower gel.

Everything you needed was supplied, basically. So as soon as you arrive, you're able to just de-stress and relax without worrying about 'getting the essentials in'. This was very much appreciated.

Simon also recommended a fantastic Chinese take away which we made use of twice - The Water Margin - delicious.

My mum LOVED the hot tub. She'd never used one before but I knew it'd be right up her street. It was very nice being able to pop into the little summer house at any time and have a dip. Very minor quibbles here - there isn't much lighting in the hot tub area. We appreciate that this place is mainly for romantic couples who want mood, low lighting but it was just a little too dark, we thought. With the steam off the water, we could hardly see each other on our evening dips. Plus, the candles supplied in the hot tub area (and the cottage) were all mainly burnt down and unusable - to say such attention to detail is adhered to elsewhere, we found it a little strange that fresh candles weren't supplied. BUT this is a very minor quibble and is in no way a complaint. It's no big deal, just pointing it out.

The TV in the lounge has free use of Netflix which we used to continue our Suits marathon ha ha. We stayed in on the Friday night with a glass of wine and takeaway with the intention of trying one of the pubs on the Saturday night. But the cottage was so relaxing (and the lounge sofa so comfy) that we couldn't be bothered to get ready so we did the same on the Saturday night and stayed in with wine and takeaway!

We had the most wonderfully relaxing couple of days at Mill Cottage and it was exactly what I hoped it would be - an extra special treat for my amazing mum on her birthday. We'll definitely be back... I'm planning another weekend with my fiance in the future and we're thinking of looking into hiring the actual Mill (which is next to the cottage) that sleeps 6 people for a getaway with friends at some point too!

“Table for two.”
Reviewed February 7, 2015 for a stay in February 2015

A cosy romantic winter retreat. Just what we wanted. Just as advertised. Attractive and comfortable, with thoughtful extras such as flowers, wine and chocolates.

It's not perfect, nothing is perfect, but if you want a little luxury, and some time and space to yourselves, you'll find it here at Mill Cottage.

Braunston is a nice village too, and the canals are close by. We had a thoroughly relaxing stay.

“Excellent Relaxing Stay”
Reviewed November 18, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

We stayed at the Mill Cottage in October 2014 and the whole stay was wonderful. We arrived to a general grocery package including wine, chocolates, egg, toast etc on arrival so we did not need to rush to the shops.

Beautiful location and the cottage was completed to a very high standard. The stairs are creaky but I would expect this in a cottage of this type. In relation to the downstairs bathroom. I was 24 weeks pregnant and had no problem with the size of the shower cubicle at all.

Everything you need to have a relaxing holiday. I could not use the hot tub due to pregnancy, but my husband throughly enjoyed it.

For anyone looking for a relaxing break I would thoroughly recommend a stay here and we would definitely return in the future. The village is beautiful with all the local amenities you need nearby.

“Compact but Nice”
Reviewed October 14, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Stayed for a long weekend in October 2104, nice place and a cottage with some character. The other reviews are correct, the downstairs toilet / shower is compact and would be a difficulty for larger built guests. Despite this it hard a certain charm and was well equipped for a cottage of its size. Once you had got used to going up and down the stairs to use the facilities it was a pleasant stay. The hot tub was also a good addition and this added another extra to the break. Overall a pleasant stay.

Thank you for taking time to submit a review. The cottage is a grade 2 listed building so we are unable to extend to fit a new bathroom. Most of our guests though seem to feel that the room is an adequate size for a cottage.

“lovely”
Reviewed September 15, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Just returned from four nights in mill cottage. What a wonderful place. The bathroom is a little snug but has everything you need. Don't think I've stayed anywhere so clean! The place is spotless, the owners are very helpful and informative. We didn't use the car at all just walked everywhere. We needed a quiet relaxing break and that's what we got. The hot tub was a joy to use but we need to come back for the big round bath as we enjoyed the hot tub so much we didn't use it. Recommend gongoozlers for breakfast and we went to three local pubs the plough, the admiral nelson and the boat house. All very different but all did good food with good friendly service. Can't wait to come back.

Thank you for such a lovely review. We try very hard to present our properties in a way that you would expect in a high quality property. Thank you so much for your comments on cleanliness as we feel this is a very important factor when choosing a cottage.

“Weekend Break”
Reviewed July 28, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

A surprise weekend break with my partner. Booked a few months prior as a relaxing break to de-stress and with no driving.
Location
------------
Great location, lovely village, local amenities within walking reach. The Boat House, The Plough, Gongoozlers (breakfast) all experienced as well as a long walk along the canal tow path. Centrally located but didn't drive anywhere.

The best bits
------------------
The cottage in very well specified, clean, modern and very tasteful. Love the decor. Thoughtfully, milk, bread, eggs, tea bags, biscuits and butter were in the kitchen which was well received. Wifi throughout the house and reachable in the garden. Hot tub was outstanding, simple to operate and blissful. Relaxing seating, tv coming up out of the bed and all mod cons. Loved it.

If I was being picky
-------------------------
Im used to an orthopaedic bed but this was a very soft mattress and by night 3 was playing havoc with my back. Personal I know but just a point. Lounge tv was free sat but could get but a few channels, might be my misuse but Im no technophobe. Got everything else working fine. Toilet is down very creaky stairs by the front door. Trouble free during the day but in the middle of the night, one up, all up. Shower is electric and is begging for a power shower. Outdoor table and chairs but a couple of loungers would have done a treat.

Summary
-------------
Very relaxing and needed weekend. Lovely place and facilities but a few small changes would have made it perfect, but then, what in life is?

Thank you for leaving your review.
We are sorry we did not see you as you left earlier than you stated.
Mill Cottage is a grade 2 listed building so we are sorry the stairs creaked. Older properties do have little annoyances to some. We do notify of this within our adverts and terms.
There is Freesat in both the bedroom and downstairs lounge along with Apple TV. If you had an issue with using the systems provided a call would have brought us down to assist.
The shower is a modern electric shower and has recently been refitted. Again due to the nature and age of the building we cannot guarantee the same level of pressure as in modern builds. However we can offer great character.
There are two sun lounger chairs in the hot tub area for your exclusive use which you could have used. Such a shame you did not use as you had such lovely weather.
The tv bed is another recent edition with a medium - firm mattress which the majority of our guests find gives an excellent nights sleep. If you had mentioned before booking you required an orthopaedic mattress due to your condition we could have advised you of the type of mattress. We do not fit very firm mattress as these can be very uncomfortable to many guests.
After all though it sounds as you had a great time!

“Amazing place to stay. dont think twice!”
Reviewed June 23, 2014 for a stay in April 2014

Stayed here for my Girlfriends birthday. She loved it and so did I. The cottage is nice and secluded with a big garden for BBQ's etc. The hot tub is nice although you have to pay for up to three uses, we didn't mind this though as it was used purely by us.

The location is great if you want a romantic trip away, lovely country pubs and near the canals. Would highly recommend to anyone and would definitely return.
