Buckle House
Reviewed 8 March 2010

We recently made our second visit to Buckle House as we so enjoyed staying there during the summer of 2009.
Mark and Donna, the owners, are both wonderful hosts; very friendly and helpful, and they provide everything you might need for a perfect stay and then go further with extra thoughtful touches.
We had homemade flapjack (made by Mark) every day to enjoy with tea and coffee in our lovely bedroom; fresh milk and bottles of water were provided and kept cool in the small fridge in the room which was much appreciated. We also had bathrobes, lovely toiletries and fresh flowers - all adding to the attention to detail.
Breakfast was a triumph and served in their beautiful dining room overlooking the garden. We had a choice of fresh fruit, cereals, fresh fruit juices. toast and homemade preserves and a wide choice of food for a splendid cooked breakfast.
The house and garden are delightful; Mark and Donna grow fresh fruit and veg in part of their large garden with hens providing the eggs for breakfast.
We stayed in a double bedroom with a fine view over the fields and found the location ideal for touring round the Cotswold villages and Shakespeare Country.
The only thing we ask if you read this review is please don't try to book when we want to stay again!

the accommodation was superb, the food was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for the hosts. Made to feel very comforatble and therefore able to relax in a lovely setting after a hard day at work. The hosts were able to give us all the relevant information and advice on eating establishments and walks in the local area.

many thanks, ajhaeh

Due to business in the area, I recently stayed at ‘Buckle House’ for five nights and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The large country home is situated in the small hamlet of Bickmarsh near Bidford on Avon and just outside Stratford upon Avon. An ideal location for seeing the Cotswolds and visiting Shakespeare country.

There is ample parking at the front and side of the house and it stands in an acre of land. In the reception area is a large warm wood burning stove and the upstairs bedrooms are off to the right. The apartment is at the rear of the house and has a large double bedroom, lounge, bathroom and kitchen. I was given a guided tour of this impressive guest house.

The upstairs bedrooms consist of a twin room, with its own bathroom and a large double bedroom with en suite bathroom. In room tea & coffee making facilities are available and obviously in the apartment you have the full kitchen. A nice touch being the daily supply of biscuits and chocolates in the room.
The hosts really do go the extra mile to ensure your satisfaction and the breakfasts and meals at the Buckle House are testament to that. All the produce is locally sourced and the resident hens and quails provide the eggs for breakfast. From fruit juice, porridge, fresh fruit, cereals, full traditional cooked breakfast, toast, own made jams and marmalade the breakfasts are extremely substantial. The evening meals again, were excellent. Breakfast & meals are served in the well furnished dining room.

In each bedroom is a flat screen TV with numerous channels and there is also complimentary Wifi. The room was extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean. Bath towels are provided daily. As I have previously stated, the hosts really take care of you.

Would I recommend this guest house to my friends and family? Most definitely. Would I stay here again? If ever in the area, absolutely.

Thank Andrew H
