Owner description: This fifteenth-century, charming thatched cottage was the childhood home of Anne Hathaway, Shakespeare's sweet-heart and wife.Experienced guides explain the stories behind the Shakespeare connection and the history of some well-known English idioms such as "chairman of the board".There are nine acres of gardens and grounds to explore including a lavender maze, a woodland walk, the Shakespeare arboretum and a living willow cabin where you may listen to some of Shakespeare's sonnets.

“Beautiful, quaint, and peaceful”
Reviewed 21 April 2012

We had been told that Anne Hathaway's Cottage was a better place to visit than Shakespeare's birthplace. Our visits to both today proved that to be true. The cottage itself was quite interesting in it's construction, history, and setting - especially for the my family who my family whom had never been out of the US before this trip.

The gardens were beautiful as spring has now come. The girls walked through the new woodlands area and thoroughly enjoyed it. This was the English countryside they hoped to see. We will definitely recommend the cottage to others planning to visit the area.

“Guide was superb”
Reviewed 19 April 2012

I really enjoyed Anne Hathaweay's cottage and I am not even a Shakespeare buff. The guide who talked you through it was fantastic and really captured your information in describing the house and its uses as well as all of the items within it. Fab.

“Excellent”
Reviewed 17 April 2012

Really enjoyed the whole experience. Took advantage of the multi ticket and enjoyed three of the five available homes to visit. Unfortunately time got the better of us, otherwise we would have taken advantage of the other two properties to visit.

“Loved it”

If you are into this sort of thing then it's great. The guides are very knowledgable and friendly. Definitely worth a visit. Buy the annual ticket to all of the houses in the birth place trust and it works out really cheap too. VR tour for wheelchair users.

“Long walk, but well worth it!”
Reviewed 15 April 2012

The walk was longer than we expected, and the map wasn't entirely accurate. Once we arrived, we were very pleased with the cottage and the grounds.
