The American Fountain

Here again, This is something you observe on your stroll through the town. It is nicely constructed and has historical value. Its at the center of cross roads so a great landmark and meeting point.

An elaborate monument marking British and American ties at the end of the walking mall. There were neat carvings and thoughtful quotes from the Bard.

I found this fountain while walking into the city and fell in love. I was surprised to see it was called The American Fountain

The American Fountain is in the middle of a wide road, opposite the Old Thatch Tavern. It was made to mark Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee and is an ornate fountain/clock tower containing many stone carved Shakespeare tributes. It also celebrates the American/British links. Although called a fountain, there is no water there now. There are carved birds, lions, angels and roses. There is much to see if you look closely and there are Shakespearean quotes to read. Certainly an interesting object worth a close look, but I find it rather ugly.
