What an extraordinary monument this is! It’s a Victorian drinking fountain of the size and dimensions of a medieval market cross elsewhere. Erected in 1887 it was the gift of a Philadelphian philanthropist George Childs to the town of Stratford-upon-Avon and celebrates a love of Shakespeare from across the Atlantic containing quotes from Timon of Athens and Henry VIII. There are many nice touches including pairs of English lions and American eagles. It was intended as a tribute to Queen Victoria and a debate rages as to whether it also supported the temperance movement.

We used this location to meet up with after touring the city. Worked out well. The intersecting Wood and Rother Streets border most parts of the city's tourist sites.

This is a lovely fountain with an old history. However now and again people put litter or disused coffee cups in the water which can make it unsightly!

I went looking for this and walked past it as it looks like a clock tower to me and not a fountain. If there’s water I couldn’t see it. Maybe I’m missing something, but not what I expected

We enjoyed this right outside our hotel...it has cars all around it and you can literally just walk by it if you are not paying attention. It is quite pretty and a landmark for walking tours. You will spend about 5-10 minutes max.

If you want to get to know a place you need a few landmarks and this is a ver beautiful one in a rather busy corner of the old part of Stratford upon Avon.

This is a lovely clock tower next to the market square in the old part of town - we came upon it by accident and it was difficult to take a good photo of it as the traffic is very busy in that part! We liked it and were surprised at how small it is compared to most clock towers.
