“Discomfort Inn - bring earplugs and noseclips...”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2012

To start with the positives - the hotel was in a good position for access to the station and the city centre. It was reasonably easy to find and they provided car park passes so that parking cost £4.40 instead of £19.00.

Apart from the above i have to say I have never stayed in such a run down, depressing and souless place in my life. We were prepared for a hotel needing updating and that was possibly tired in the decor stakes. What we found was a hotel that smelt like it hadn't been cleaned for months with tired and damp decor. Our room had single glazed windows which meant we felt like we were sleeping IN the station nevermind across the road from it. There was an overpowering smell of damp and the furniture was delapidated and worn. The worst feature of our room was definitely the indoor waterfall that greeted us in the morning after rainfall during the night... Water was dripping through the (Already stained) ceiling tiles and running down the curtains and sitting on the top of the wardrobe. Need I go on?

Staff were apathetic at best and breakfast was very poor for the £8.00 charge although after our night in the hotel we didn't dare try the cooked food and opted for pre packaged food instead.

Unless the rest of the hotels in Birmingham are out of action please do not waste your money or health by staying here...

I stay in confront inn for one night becauce it is close to the station. the lift was broken down which force me to walk 3 floors. Place smell like a old and damp carpet. Room relative clean but it really need some work! I won't advice u to stay unless u can't find anywhere else.

The hotel was in a great location, just a 5/10 minute walk from the train station. However this excellent location comes at a noisy price being opposite the train station and a building site so not one for light sleepers. It didn't particularly bother anyone in my party though. The area itself was a bit dodgy so I probably wouldn't recommend for families but if you just need a cheap place to stay in the city centre then it was ideal.

The hotel itself was pretty dated but our room was a good size and clean. The hotel staff however were excellent, really friendly and helpful.

The breakfast was standard, we had the continental which was a decent selection for a decent price.

Overall a positive experience, a great price for a city centre hotel and friendly staff to assist. However I think it's definitely more of a 'stopover' hotel than one longer than a couple of nights as I think the area and the basic amenities would start to grate any longer.

Room Tip: I'd ask for a room at the back of the hotel as we were at the front which was directly opposite...

Well the map said it was a 9 min walk from coach station it took us an hour this is so so hard to find, get a taxi there really cheap, i phoned the hotel and they gave us directions, the area around the house isnt the safest so wasnt happy walking around for long. If you come out of new street go down to bottom level of shopping centre by Debenhams asnd take a right then left. As for the hotel the room was lovely an clean, not a nice view but I found that over all the room was very nice, the bathroom was small but the shower was lovely and again was clean. The hotel lift wasnt working but we were on the 1st floor, the hotel itself has a cosey feel. The staff were so nice, they let us leave our bags there after we checked out to go shopping, booked a taxi for us an were very nice, would go back again. Once you know where you are going it is great, the shopping is just round the corner. So yes id reccommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Always get a taxi!! Hard to find, and dont expect good views.

I chose that hotel as it was closed from New Street Station. The location is indeed perfect, but that hotel should be fully refurbished. Antique lift that takes for ages, room of 8 sq. meters, bathroom basic bu ok, matress really below standard (you can feel the coils!). at 100 meters you have a brand new Ibis hotel for only 10€ more. There is Wi-Fi available (5P/1h, 10P/1day).

We stayed at the CI for one night for a weekend jaunt in Birmingham. The hotel is close to New street station and all the shops (Broad street is a £8 taxi ride; we wasnt wearing walking shoes!).

The reception staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was a nice size with clean sheets, tea making facilities and a large bathroom (considering the age of the hotel). Those were the pros here are the cons - the room needed a good hoover, there was a slight shall we say 'mess' to be polite in the toilet and the window couldnt be opened (although due to the new street renovations outside this wasnt a problem).

Im not sure if I would stay here again but for the price we paid £30ish pound for the night it was good value.

I loved the bed, I slept well. Not noisy at all in the hotel. Continental breakfast was quite sober and I won't have mind if they would have heated up the heating a bit at the restaurant.

My colleague happened to meet the mouse, which she reported at the reception (she was on the 1 floor) and quite smoothly she got an upgraded room on the second floor.
