“Clearly seen better days”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2012

Stayed for 3 nights as part of a wedding party package deal - £180 total, and for some reason the reception staff were surprised that it cost so little... I was surprised they thought it was worth more.

Pros - the grounds look nice, shame the weather was so bad (not the hotel's fault obviously).
the bathroom has a very powerful, instantly hot shower and the jacuzzi jets in the bathtub are quite a novelty. Doesn't make up for the fact the plug didn't seal the bathtub though.
Cons - worn carpets, beds with broken springs, mould and damp in the bathroom, a cockroach or some cockroach-like bug in the bathroom! Bath plug didn't seal the tub, had to keep the water running to keep the tub full (not very environmentally friendly), no clock/radio, room telephone broken, desk lamp not working, poor lighting in the rooms, noisy doors. They charge guests to use the leisure facilities, which put me off.

The breakfast was standard, nothing special, but edible and nice enough. Plates were stone cold though, so all the effort of keeping the food under warmers was wasted. The reception staff I met were, on the whole, not helpful - no-one could give me directions to the hotel when I was lost (the place is very poorly signposted); I needed to call taxi cabs to get to various venues; the room phone didn't work, the staff declined to call the taxi on my behalf and there was no cellphone reception in the room, so I had to stand outside in the rain to get a signal. I didn't know the area, so the only cab company I could find was a black cab company which cost a fortune. I'm sure there were minicabs companies available if the hotel staff could be bothered to help.

Unless you're getting a special offer, I wouldn't recommend staying here. For our purposes it suited fine, but is a long way from the nicest hotel I've stayed in. I think with some revamping, it could be a really great place though, because it definitely has the landscape.

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms towards the end of the corridor are very quiet, away from the bar where drunk...

Within ten minutes of walking into our hotel room, we were shocked to find that someone managed to walk in to our bedroom from the room next door as the hotel had failed to lock the interconnecting door. We ignored this initial hiccup and went to attend a local wedding and on returning to my hotel room early with a headache, was unable to sleep as the room was vibrating with the noise from the wedding party below despite us being on the third floor. On further inspection of the room, it was filthy, our toilet was broken with a huge chunk missing from the rim and dirty marks in it, there was no valance sheet on the bed and the room was generally very old fashioned. This was supposed to be a premium spa room! When we went to reception to let them know that we were unhappy, we were told that it was our responsibility to lock the interconnecting door, the hotel was a wedding hotel and that was their priority and they generally lacked any kind of sympathy for the noise which would go on till gone 1am. At no point were we offered an apology and the manager was extremely rude and asked us to leave the hotel. At no point were we rude to them, they just weren't willing to accept any liability for our awful stay. At the time that we were discussing our inadequate room, an elderly lady was trying to complain about the filth of the restaurant and terrible quality and lack of food and she was ignored by the receptionist. We went to stay with a bridal party who aparently had the honeymoon suite and their spa bath was broken. Save your money and sanity and go to the travellodge or any other budget hotel, in comparison they are palaces!!

Stayed here for Coldplay concert at Rioch stadium initially allocated room 112 worn out carpets worn out furniture the room was well past its best. The leaded windows were jammed shut with broken windows covered in clear polythene and tape and appearing to have been in that condition for some time. For £84 inc breakfast would have expected better. Moved to room 465 which was on the 3rd floor again tired furniture with unfilled rawplug fixing holes. Hotel lacking in general good maintainence inside and out. I would rate breakfast 4 out of 10 The staff however both at breakfast and behind the bar were excellant. Would I stay here again, no I am sorry but I wouldn't.

We stayed here on business and were pleasantly surprised after reading the reviews. The staff are helpful and friendly and it's a lovely walk around the grounds. It's got everything you need and we've stayed in many of the Coventry hotels and for the price this is great value for money.

Arriving at the hotel, the staff was friendly enough, until we went for a quick cuppa. We requested water for top up and was given a small cup of luke warm water which the young somewhat arrogant young barman retrieved via the kitchen tap. Food was average and it was only on the last morning before we left that the restaurant staff was sickenly sweet (so we could put a tip in the bowl on one of the tables). The Only really good thing about this hotel was the room. Although not plush, it was clean, comfortable, what you would expect if booking into a conference hotel. Unfortunately i will not be going back.
