Stayed for 3 nights as part of a wedding party package deal - £180 total, and for some reason the reception staff were surprised that it cost so little... I was surprised they thought it was worth more.
Pros - the grounds look nice, shame the weather was so bad (not the hotel's fault obviously).
the bathroom has a very powerful, instantly hot shower and the jacuzzi jets in the bathtub are quite a novelty. Doesn't make up for the fact the plug didn't seal the bathtub though.
Cons - worn carpets, beds with broken springs, mould and damp in the bathroom, a cockroach or some cockroach-like bug in the bathroom! Bath plug didn't seal the tub, had to keep the water running to keep the tub full (not very environmentally friendly), no clock/radio, room telephone broken, desk lamp not working, poor lighting in the rooms, noisy doors. They charge guests to use the leisure facilities, which put me off.
The breakfast was standard, nothing special, but edible and nice enough. Plates were stone cold though, so all the effort of keeping the food under warmers was wasted. The reception staff I met were, on the whole, not helpful - no-one could give me directions to the hotel when I was lost (the place is very poorly signposted); I needed to call taxi cabs to get to various venues; the room phone didn't work, the staff declined to call the taxi on my behalf and there was no cellphone reception in the room, so I had to stand outside in the rain to get a signal. I didn't know the area, so the only cab company I could find was a black cab company which cost a fortune. I'm sure there were minicabs companies available if the hotel staff could be bothered to help.
Unless you're getting a special offer, I wouldn't recommend staying here. For our purposes it suited fine, but is a long way from the nicest hotel I've stayed in. I think with some revamping, it could be a really great place though, because it definitely has the landscape.
